NJ was supposed to legalize weed back in 2018, but they were so busy arguing over how to spend the new tax revenue and whether or not distributor licenses should preferentially be given to black people, that they decided to just keep it illegal, not reap any new cash flow from taxes, and keep handing out criminal records to those they ostensibly want to help.

Maine legalized weed in 2016 and is just now opening recreational stores on Friday - though the medical scene is very relaxed and has very good bud. So don't hold your breath down there

The NJ state legislature is among the worst in the entire country. Please run for it if you can, NJ is like one of the only states without any sort of meaningful state level left movements in the north east.

I was only there for a year on a temporary work assignment, and being from a super-illegal state I was excited to get there right as legalization was supposed to happen. My hopes dwindled quickly as I became acquainted with NJ politics. Luckily Massachusetts finally came through that November, so I was able to squeeze in a couple road trips during my time there.

Let's be clear here. The police unions opposed it and Sweeney had absolutely no intent of letting it pass through the legislature. Everything else was just excuses.

A constitutional amendment is on the ballot. Page two (back of page one) public referendum one. Fuck everyone on the ballot (maybe you did better, but every candidate on my ballot is a county machine or DNC hack), but please vote for that.
