I got into it with that dude and he ended up denying that the Irish famine was a genocide.

Drought plus kulaks burning food out of spite, where more Russians died than Ukrainians? Genocide.

Blight of a single crop plus a continued net export of food, where only Irish died? Not a genocide.

      the Irish famine

The one that the Irish still call "that time when the English stole all the food"?

God sent the blight, but the English made the famine

At least they're not as bad as "The English and their History" (which I picked up on a whim) where the author not only denies that it was a genocide, but also praises the English for breaking records in money collected for disaster relief. But what got me to go from morbid curiosity about imperial apologia to stopping reading was when we got to the 20th century and you'd believe that the UK single handedly won both world wars and the evil populace rewarded these noble men by electing the evil socialists. But luckily that was corrected when Thatcher came in and set everything right.

It wasn't apparent that Robert Tombs was a tory hack until late early modern period, but then it goes off the rails.

I was browsing a thread this morning on the topic of Hexbear and a lot of them seems genuinely cool and have a pro-federate-with-hexbear stance. There's definitely some reactionaries over there, but there appear to be some cool folks as well.

EDIT: To add to this, I think we should absolutely target reactionaries anywhere (of course), but we SHOULD NOT let it turn into a war against other whole lemmy instances. There are cool people on most of these instances, and we should support them in their struggle to cleanse nazi filth from their own corner of the lemmyverse.

Why would the Lenin and the USSR topple the Czar when he was just two days away from inventing an immortality serum that would have prevented every starvation, death of old age, and death against the Nazis. So the Soviet Union is responsible for all those deaths.

Don’t forget, famines didn’t happen in Russia before the evil USSR took over.

And there were no other famines in any other parts of the world when the holographymordor was happening. None at all.

The numbers of deaths includes 'births that could possibly have happened'. So logically as every new generation would've been born, Stalin's kill count doubles, truly the death count of gommunism is literally infinity

I estimate that about 100 billion people should have been born within the last hour. Less than a billion have actually been born. I must conclude that capitalism kills at least 99 billion people an hour.

wanting the workers to control the means of production is even worse than doing the holocaust! Why? Because a reactionary wrote a book full of lies. Checkmate. smuglord

That is severely understating the number of deaths nazis caused. I wonder why the user would do this.

Also, why would he use a source for communist deaths written by fascists, at least one of which was so fascist and disingenuous about his aims the project got disavowed by the other authors?

Don't know which is funnier, this or the guy below him who said commies killed a full billion.
