MLK was shot after he started calling for economic justice. Notably, the day after this speech given in support of striking sanitation workers.
The most important workers are treated the worst because they must be kept desperate.
This dude was almost shot for trying to clean up:

ah yeah, I remember that one. What a bunch of unnecessary shit that helped no one.
I know it's cringy and old, but we should def switch names between pickup artists and garbage people.
Funny you mention this: there are certain mundane observations I've made in everyday life that make me feel extremely pessimistic about Americans being able to move past the insane selfishness and lack of community mindedness. One of those things is following simple rules for garbage collection. Holy shit we're fucking doomed.
Do Americans have to learn how to live as a community before revolution can happen, or will a revolution have to happen before Americans learn to live as a community?
AND their garbage trucks play a cute song! ours just makes loud diesel noises and reversing beeps outside my window at 7AM
literally one of the baseline jobs necessary for civilisation to function
big groups of people produce a shit ton of waste
that needs to be moved away from the people
or we get all diseasey and dieAnd even if it gets recycled, it mostly won't get reused because for example new plastic pellets are still cheaper.
It's also an incredibly dangerous job. Operating heavy machinery that can crush a person, walking in the middle of the street to collect stuff, driving in general, ect.
Honestly it might make us all live in a better world if every person right after high school had to work as a trash collector for a year or so. It's difficult and humbling work.
Yup, I see loose trash strewn all around the dumpster of my complex all the time. It's incredible. And when the compactor breaks down that shit piles up within a single day.
Garbage persons and sanitation folks are heroes. Full stop. They deserve respect and admiration.
Agreed with this whole post. Out apartment complex is giant, literally hundreds of people, so they end up taking away our trash & recycling every day or two. But when there's a holiday weekend they don't want to pay holiday hours so its always disgusting. literally there is no where to put anything trash anymore so people start leaving it outside the dumpster and its just fucking gross.
The apartment complex COULD choose to get more dumpsters so its not 100+ people sharing one. they also could just simply get more frequent trash disposal. But they don't. so it becomes a giant sanitation hazard for the hundreds of people paying thousands of dollars to live in these depressing little shitboxes.
