I don't think most people's early conception of political beliefs are comparable to what someone believes after fully thinking through this stuff and possibly reading some different sorts of political theory.
Politics often starts either as support for a specific set of policies a la Sanders or in opposition to something (like Bush/Obama's wars or great recession programs). And often relate at least in part to what sort of beliefs your parents have.
The vast majority of contemporary US leftists come from ancestrally democratic households.
