while i hate suburban culture and find many elements obviously garbage, i think there's a trend among american leftists to view the phenomena of suburbia as simply an aesthetic choice to be criticized on those grounds

its not about the suburbs being bad because they're aesthetically monstrous or because they're architecturally wasteful etc, it's about understanding the material history of their existence

while all of those aesthetic complaints are true, none of it is as relevant as the simple truth that A) the suburbs exist because of racism (white flight) and B) the suburbs can only exist because of a massive amount of stolen land and wealth

by making it purely about the aesthetics youre never going to win anyone over because the essential offering to well off white people is "you can have your own little feudal empire to lord over," and that will forever be more captivating than any aesthetic points you raise
