I think we're seeing them lay the groundwork for what would have happened if Bernie was the nom: just steal the win from him. Trump has shown over and over he really did expect to run against Bernie. I think the financial class would have backed the Republicans on that like how Big Energy backed them in 2000, but Wall Street has invested in Biden and the Dems. Remember: the cycle is deregulate with the R's, then make your own regulations with the D's. Cut taxes with the R's, then make tax breaks and incentives designed around your industry with the D's (see: Obamacare). Regulation is coming for big tech and big energy and from their perspective they may as well buyout the regulators than gamble on them not existing.
