This is literally a plot point of Strugatsky (of Stalker fame) novel (and movie) Hard to Be God. Communist Earth finds a planet of human-like aliens stuck in medieval ages but decides to help only by influencing the politics with spies and shit, because going ham would be "robbing people of their history".
The movie is great even if more artsy than the novel. I'm not sure how many of their books are translated to english but they are pretty cool.

Honestly aliens have done a no-growth by focusing on dead old white guys, they really need to check out some Fanon or at least read Settlers

The Culture's definitely not imperialist in the Marxist sense.
Not in the extractive sense certainly. But it certainly is prepared to be abitrarily interventionist on cultural amd sometimes economic issues, to the extent that a good chunk of smaller civs are essentially client states .
Mmmmm, I wouldn't say it's arbitrary. And they're not exporting monopoly capital, so imperialist would be a misnomer. They're just hegemonic, which in their case I think is good.
I would definitely be down for some of their intervention.
Of course Vulcans are Marxists. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Infinite diversity in infitine combinations.
