Just re-watched Knights of Sidonia, and I still can't get over how good the sound design is.

The 3rd season is in production and is going to be released as a movie in 2021.

I need something new to watch. I like gritty or "Gee that escalated quickly" shows, faves are: Cowboy Bebop, JJBA, Full Metal Alchemist, Trigun, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan, and 7 Smaurai.

Steins;Gate has big "that escalated quickly" power. Episodes 1-12 travel at a sedate pace for world building while 13-24 travel at a million miles per minute. You could certainly make some complaints from the left about its treatment of female characters and some of the ""jokes"" that land badly if you're on the left, but I think it's a good watch overall, the pacing change is actually incredible.

I feel like it's a fairly universal issue with the way they're generally... Not very human? You could kinda say the same for a lot of characters in the show but the women in particular suffer from being made into children. They're quite extreme caricatures and very tropey.

I could be being harsh on it really, but compared to shows that respect their characters and write them to be human being instead of "female anime character" it's real noticeable in Steins. Again, it's really ok to enjoy that at times, I don't really dislike it as a thing completely, but I like to mention awareness of it if I bring up a show or someone else will point it out.

If you're a fan of Bebop, try Samurai Champloo or Space Dandy (Hitchhiker's Guide meets Johnny Bravo)

Space Dandy might be a winner, thanks!

I'll give Samurai Champloo another try too, I fell asleep the first time and never came back to it. :P

      Escalate slowly? Evangelion.

All of the other shows that the Cowboy Bebop guy made are really good as well.

I've seen it, but I wasn't the biggest fan. It kind of felt like a mess in a lot of places, especially near the end. I didn't really feel a sense of hopelessness like I was told I would feel. Frankly, I wouldn't even say that it really left a lasting impact on me besides the music.

I can include it but left it out as I tend to make a very subjective judgement of what "major" is based on popularity rankings on the sites (anilist/mal/livechart). It's below Black Clover and who's still watching Black Clover?

Regardless, I will add it in and you're very much free to chat about anything and everything here anyway, including this show :3

It's better to stick to word of mouth. Even /r/anime's Best Girl Contest has introduced me to more good shows than MAL ever did.

Yep I agree for sure. I only use it when looking at current season.

I also think it completely over-represents comedy. Comedy shows get extremely easy high ratings while niche shows like slice of life or high quality seinen that don't appeal to the junk-food audience of anime will struggle to compete with easily likeable comedy in the ratings.

On "popularity" in a given season it represents a useful tool for measuring how many in MAL's specific audience are watching a show though, I do notice some differences in the "popularity" ratings across different sites.

What for? The last episode bumped the show up to a 7 or 8 out of 10 for me.

I liked the first two seasons of Oregairu, but I haven't felt motivated to start the third. Is it any good?

I don't even watch anime these days but I recently got into re:zero, watched the entire first season in a few days, now it sucks to be caught up.

(and the formatting on the ln is garbage absolutely will not read it you cant make me)

The only LN I've read is Log Horizon, and I haven't felt the need to read another. Something about it must be lost in translation that the anime manages to get across.

Been watching anime while I workout. Watching "Attack on Titan" right now. Any good recommendations for good psych up anime?

Mindless action isn't far off the mark. I typically don't have the sound on and just watch it with closed captioning. If it's actually a good anime, I'll probably go back and watch it properly.

I'm only half paying attention when I watch it, since I'm working out. I'll watch it between sets, sound off with closed captioning on. Something action heavy and with a plot that isn't too complicated.

Fast paced, exciting fight scenes are a good psych up for me.

Oops. JoJo is on my list, but figure it deserves a proper watch first. Thanks for the recommendations.

What's the way to watch Dragon Ball these days. I tried to find it via a VPN on Netflix, but no luck.

I don't know what "psych up" would really mean (more detail please), but in terms of watching something while you workout I really enjoyed How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?. It's absurd gym humour and covers lots of workout stuff, very funny. What I generally like about it too is that because it's just absurd about the human body in general all the fan-servicey scenes really don't bother me very much as they're very much in-keeping with the gym/body-improvement thing, and it shows off muscle bound men in sexy ways throughout just as much as the women. Generally a good laugh and definitely targeted at the gym crowd.

Granted, Bam is kind of a weak character in the beginning.

God that's an understatement. For all the problems the word has everyone describing ban as a massive "simp" was really accurate. Following him as a protagonist has been painful to watch for how much of a massive doormat he is.

That makes sense. Unfortunately I really didn't get very into it, I watched it but my heart's not in it. If the goal is to create readers for the source material it has done the opposite for me. I have no interest in the source.

I will probably continue to keep an eye on it in future content. I warmed to Robbie Rotten early on and our stream crowd has generally been memeing him as the secret protagonist of the show because of how much everyone in chat disliked Bam.
