People still had children during the 30 Years War and the Great Depression and World War 1 and pandemics of yesteryear. I mean, what do you want from them? To stop? Capitalism and climate disaster will kill everyone–should everyone just give up? I get the feeling, but… they won’t.

There were a couple of incredibly doomy (and probably correct) posts I read about just how fucked we all are cause climate change, and in both cases the authors did some introspection about why, knowing all this, they still chose to have kids, and their answers just weren't satisfactory at all to me. I'm not sure there really COULD be a satisfactory answer. Another one I read straight up answered the question of "is it even right to bring a child into this world?" with "yes" because like, "we won't save the future by giving ourselves a smaller stake in it" or something to that effect, which is just absolute horseshit

Too bad that not only does that not grant you any actual power to do something about it, it actually neuters any radical action you could be taking because you have a dependent to look after and can no longer risk job loss, arrest, etc

No, you see, I don't give a shit about people or my fellow man, so I need to force a doomed existence on another being in order to feel good about myself and maybe motivate myself to fight for the survival of humanity.
