I'll be a blood cow for whichever vampire makes me a blissfully ignorant slave like that one girl in the game.
The difference between cattle and humans is that humans can consent to having blood taken from them. It is far more likely to create a world where obligate carnivores can live alongside their sapient prey peacefully and justly than it is to create a world where omnivores peacefully and justly prey (unnecessarily, I might add) on non-sapient animals. That is, of course, because the latter world cannot be created at all.
But I guess she’s not really advocating for communism for humans, just vampires.
I mean, it's in the line right there: "Communism would actually work for Kindred, where it fails with humans."
Kindred = Vampires.
Also, the vampires would still have to exploit humans by sucking on their blood.
I dunno if the TTRPG says otherwise, but in Bloodlines, you can drink the blood of rats (though it's not as "filling" and looked down on by other vampires) so humans alone aren't needed for the blood supply.
Also the Anarchs did nothing wrong. Fuck the Camarilla. The Camarilla's "Masquerade" the Anarchs agree with (protecting vampires/not having them be discovered) but they disagree with the Camarilla's elders/capitalism trickle-down sort of ethos. So that's what the line means, she's an Anarch (faction) that is against the Camarilla's (group of types of Vampires) power in L.A.
I mean it could be like true blood where they develop synthetic blood (sorta like beyond meat irl)
oh lol you mentioned artificial blood damn I need to read the whole post next time
Vampire: The Masquerade (TTRPG->Video game series): Bloodlines. 2 is coming out next year.
The ghoul vampire dynamic leaves a lot to be desired but supposedly the act of feeding is pleasurable to humans with a few exceptions.
Humans don't remember the process at all, as far as I'm aware. It's very pleasurable to vampires, and basically completely wipes the recent memories of the human.
Kind of if I read it right it is pleasurable to the vampire but supposed to feel great for humans too. The Giovanni clan's major weakness besides being Italian is that it's painful as hell to the victim and likely to breach the masquerade. I think they're also humans that were addicted to being fed on. Mind you all of this might have been in the ttrpg and not in the game. I don't know much since I only ever followed changeling the lost.
Yeah I'm not super well read on it. I've played a little bit of the TTRPG (like maybe 5 sessions) and once through the video game, so my knowledge of it is all muddled up. I know for sure that the video game's mechanics for feeding on humans are all kinds of messed up lore-wise, since they kind of needed to actually use it as a game mechanic. In the video game you're just running around grabbing random hobos in alleys and sucking their blood. As far as lore goes, that is considered not only gross, but also extremely dangerous for a variety of reasons, and also entirely illegal. Cause if that person has a bloodborne disease, you will literally have that bloodborne disease for all eternity. Any blood you take in will become diseased with it, and you can't clean yourself out of blood entirely because, you know, that's death. Same thing happens with drugs, but iirc there's some kind of funny business going on so you can get drunk that way for fun and not actually be drunk forever. And this problem was only addressed in one very small quest in the video game and otherwise never really considered. (and of course even that quest doesn't prompt you, the player character, to change your absurdly reckless activities)
But yeah, rant aside, all I'm saying is I'm not an expert, and my knowledge is definitely muddled a bit by the two conflicting sources.
I'll take you're word on this because the game was a good intro for me into the world of darkness line but changeling was the only line that really sparked my interest. What I know about vampires is bits that I wondered how they would relate to the lost. Feel like these two supernatural groups would make an excellent political drama game if crossover.
I doubt many people will volunteer to regularly give up their blood, and even if they did I don’t think it’d be enough to sustain them.
The Kiss is described as incredible, orgasmic pleasure for both the victim and vampire. So hell yeah I'd volunteer, sounds awesome. I don't think it'd take much convincing to get enough goths on board for that.
This is what I was thinking. As long I got assurance that I wouldn't be drained dry by a frenzied vampire I'd be down on getting snacked on. Also on food being well fed afterwards would be great since food be cheaper than a bag of blood might be a good deal for vampires too.
China Mieville had a book that deals with this. In the fantasy world he made the only thing that really gives the vampires power in a society with humans is the fear and myths around them. Outside of that the dependency on blood, inability to go out in the day, and the fact there had to be hard rules on creating new vampires because of the resulting power struggles made them really weak as a collective. iirc if the vampire population ever grew to the numbers it would need to create industry they wouldn't be able to feed enough to stay strong and sane, so uncontrolled vampire growth just leads to something like skid row.
It seems like there would be a way to do this. Humans exist and contribute blood on a pace that is not detrimental to their well-being to sustain the vampires. In exchange vampires use their super speed/strength to turn generators to produce clean energy to sustain the human societies.
I mean, compared to the current system of having countless people spill their blood for oil and slowly suffocating the planet, I'd be game for the vampire arrangement.
what if the workers tortured the capitalists and the capitalists got to keep their wealth but were subject to extreme suffering every day. in return the workers provided labor for the capitalist.
i mean vampires
@tye35343 already mentioned China Mieville's take. There's also Night Watch (Ночной Дозор), in which some of the vampires subsist on mammal blood from slaughter houses.
