They had already made this a pretty useless metric earlier in the year by including 2020 data. Now they're removing it entirely in the middle of a surge.

"The only reason China's COVID deaths look so low is they're underreporting them!"

How. How do libs manage to project every single time?

No no no! the best part about his presidency was that he would say the things his aides and other admins were saying privately. He was like a child repeating what his parents say to strangers in public. The most truthful* president ever

I am once again saying that Bide has been demonstrably, measurably worse than Trump.

There is nothing you could call this except for evil. Biden’s covid plan has been genocidal.

I was thinking about this just now looking at opinion polling on continued polling of funding Ukraine. If trump were to be elected, does that war end?

Like say what you will about trump but he sent checks to people. They’re not going to forget that. A lot of the positive stuff that was implemented during covid got rolled back under Biden, like student loan pauses, the child tax credit etc.

Not arguing for trump here bc he’s obviously a reprehensible demon but outside of minority communities he for sure is the harm reduction candidate… which happens to be the majority of the American electorate and ESPECIALLY the majority electorate in swing state rural districts.

We are gonna get a second trump term I think which is as hilarious as it is terrifying

Yeah if i only think I'm simple terms about the direct impact on my material circumstances under Trump, where i got checks deposited in my account automagically vs biden where i had to fill out a form and then never got my check at all?

Gotta give that one to the cheeto.

As an aside, i remember being surprised when those first checks got direct deposited into my account I never gave them the info. If they can do that, doesn't that prove quite soundly that the whole performative bullshit paperwork ive done throughout the times of my life, dilligently proving i meet the requirements for aid, were just that? Performative, deliberate roadblocks?

Dems policy points are like pharma commercials. The only truth in them is written in the fine print.

Huh, maybe its because I'm on social security but I actually had the opposite experience? I never got Trump's (first???? idr the timeline) check but Biden's came into my account automatically.

Yeah, must be a social security thing. Because I didnt have to fill out a form either.

Both of their covid plans have been near-identical, and both genocidal

I don't think Bidet has been much better than Trump, but I feel like we tend to understate Trump's role as a successful archetypal conservative president in favor of portraying him as disruptive. There is and was a schism and realignment happening in the conservative bloc, and Trump has been a central figure in that, but he didn't make the schism that disrupted them in the first place

He most often gets undeserved credit for being less hawkish than Bidet, when his actions suggested that he just wanted to shift the US' allegiances first. He took particularly aggressive action against Cuba, reversing improvements in its US legal status, and frankly I think his favored partnership between the US and Russia would have benefitted US interests greatly. It certainly would have slowed the growth of BRICS, and I can't imagine the US would have lost control of Europe over it

Trump is less evil in two ways. First off he’s just less competent as an imperial administrator. When he tries to do evil shit on the world stage he’s just not very good at it and is more likely to fumble the ball than Biden.

Second, he provokes a leftwing backlash that Biden doesn’t. Trump says no covid protections, Dems get mad, we get half covid protections. Biden says no covid protections, Dems say nothing, republicans say “We should also require spitting into strangers mouths,” and we end up here.

republicans say “We should also require spitting into strangers mouths,”

And then Democrats say "we need to reach across the aisle" and "we need a strong Republican party"

          and we end up here.

the craziest part is how fuckin political medicine is now. Go look at a map on NYTimes that shows deaths from COVID, and it's the rural counties dying the most. It really is like looking at the presidential election map. rural people not getting vaxxed, plus they have way less medical services out there. There is always going to be a surge if people refuse to get vaccines(or if they arent mandated which they never will be at this point. we're gonna see fuckin polio make a comeback)

Literally, though. Every agency and department is just a specialized PR firm for the government's corporate backers. EPA for greenwashing; FDA for rubber-stamping preservative filled slop that's not safe for consumption; CDC for downplaying a deadly, years-long pandemic so that businesses can stay open.

Sitting here is like 2021 all over again. I hear my coworkers talk about how their friends and family are getting it because they went to some mass gathering. One of my co-workers has an elderly parent in the hospital with covid pneumonia because she went on a cruise. Other co workers have kids who are all getting it and spreading it. It was like this right before I got covid in early 2022. Except I see a lot fewer masks when I go to the store.

So we're all going to get it again and again and again. I've been lucky and only had it twice so far. I'm trying to isolate, physically, from others so I can put off the third time as long as possible.

For what it's worth, I do a VimHof breathing session anytime I even slightly syspect any of the symptoms. It is supposed to raise dopamine and immunity - and has some good effects on mood and performance aside COVID. If you CBAed to do full three cycles, do one or two at least but the longer the better.

I hate to break it to you, but the Wim Hof method is bullshit. The claims his brand makes about improving immunity are not true at all, the science does not work out. Behind the Bastards did a two part series on him which you can find here: Part 1 and Part 2. The guy is not ok and not someone people should be taking health advice from. CW: public indecency, severe injury, child abandonment, butt stuff, mention of suicide, death

        spoiler

___ He abandoned his children after the suicide of his wife, then got back in contact with his second oldest child years later. Wim Hof gave himself an enema in a public fountain while waiting for his son to show up. He claims to have given himself enemas in the public fountain nearly a hundred times previously. A new, higher pressure nozzle had been put on the fountain he enema'd himself with, and the water cut his intestines like a knife, so his first words in years to his son whom he had abandoned was that he needed to go to the hospital. Also some people have died while doing his his exercises.

This is not a guy you want to be taking health advice from.

No, it does help with both mood and performance - many tested it and it works, which I can also confirm from years of personal experience; IIRC there are studies confirming it but I CBAed to re-check, simply since it works very well for me. It's basically rebranded Tumo breathing which is certainly not a scam, and it also helps with, say, cold showers and raises cold tolerance in general (one of basic things Tumo was designed for). IIRC it also raises dopamine, I did reading on it years ago and will check it again. People dying from it were doing it in bodies of water or driving or doing anything stupid that you don't want to "do" potentially unconscious, since then there are disclaimers about that everywhere including the original WH site.

Of course I didn't just "trust" him but did a lot of reading - I was especially interested in what doctors/PhDs/studies have to say, besides testing it myself in many ways. It was years ago and I remember studies on immunity having mixed results and it all being in an early phase, the reason I used "is supposed to" and "for what it's worth". Anyway thanks for the links - I will check both carefully!

Affecting immunity and improving immunity are two very different things. Just to be clear, since we are in the Covid community, the Wim Hof method does NOT provide any protection against Covid-19. Again, affecting the immune system and improving immunity are two very different things. I invite you to look at this study, specifically what it concludes in the first paragraph.

In conclusion, we demonstrate that voluntary activation of the sympa-thetic nervous system results in epinephrine release and subsequent suppression of the innate immune response in humans in vivo

            Especially this part:

subsequent suppression of the innate immune response in humans

It SUPPRESSES the immune response, not the other way around! It will not provide any protection against Covid or any other disease that requires an immune response!

Like any marketable pseudoscience, the Wim Hof method contains a grain of truth; i.e. that it affects the immune system. The LIE is that it improves the immune system, the truth is that it suppresses it! There's a grain of truth involved, but the lie is all the bullshit that Wim Hof and his team constantly say and imply. It's important to have high standards for medical advice. When someone is lying and strongly implying lies much of the time, it's important to be careful of whatever medical advice they give or imply.
