Happy holidays, everybody! Whether you're chilling on your own, with housemates or partners, or reluctantly hosting some socially distant friends or family here's a hot tip for getting everyone drunk economically, deliciously, and festively for the cold*, dark winter. (*ymmv based on region and climate change)

Gluhwein (it's German so it's pronounced "glow vine" if you like pronouncing things right, or "glue wine" if you like pronouncing things Anglo and funny) is a delicious and easy mulled spice wine.

Just throw a box of red wine (oh yeah, cheapest shit you can get) in a crockpot with a bit of sugar (1/4 cup to 1/2 cup depending on what you like, that's 100g ish to 225g ish for the metric comrades), an orange cut into quarters, and whichever of the following spices you have on hand: like 10 whole cloves, 1-2 cinnamon sticks, and a star anise pod. (Alternatively if you have Karen aunts that have given you a pack of mulling spices for any reason go ahead and use those.) then just let the whole thing hang out on low for at least 30 minutes but up to ???hrs. For bonus points throw some rum, whiskey, or brandy in there to punch it up a notch. Serve hot in whichever of your mugs has the fewest chips in it.

Really great way to feel bougie while drinking the literal cheapest booze for your buck. Plus the booze plus the warmth is like a :comfy: for your insides. Drink water while you're having it cause it'll covertly fuck up your morning if you're not careful lol.

Crockpot is also not necessary, you can simmer it on the stove too but make sure you turn it off before it simmers down to syrup.

Side note see if you can get a crock pot if you don't have one, they make dinner really easy and you can usually find one at your local thrift store for like $5. Plus if you aren't estranged from your family like I am, you probably have a boomer aunt who's trying to get rid of one so she can justify getting an instant pot.

Extra side note: if you don't have a crock pot you can use a rice cooker.

Oh damn I do love some eggnog, as I'm getting older a single glass of it will have me napping in a chair so I have to time it right haha. Far and away the best vessel for nutmeg though so it's absolutely worth it once or twice a year. Or it's great for bulking up lol.

We add cranberries in too. Use a strainer if you have one when you pour it.

If you don't have a crock pot, heat it in a regular saucepan on the lowest heat you have. Do not let it simmer. Don't want to burn the booze off
