    Honestly any kind of exam that can be cheated on with something as simple as a few pages of notes probably isn't teaching you anything but rote memorizatoin anyway. All the best clases I've had have been fully open-book tests, often take home, and if you didn't know the material well it didn't matter how many notes you had, you'd still be fucked. I'm of the opinion tha its possible to design any class tests like this, at least for any class at the level where cheating is something that's considered a serious issue. It takes quite a lot more work and I don't blame teachers for just doing multiple-choice bubble tests on the budgets they have + being encouraged to teach thay way. But it is possible and I hope it becomes the norm eventually.
