capitalism = efficient btw
It takes like 5 fucking minutes to get from desktop to GTA online gameplay. Oh, and you can't tab out of the loading screen or shift focus to another window or the loading stops so you're forced to stare at a blank screen with no progress bar and listen to the same annoying song every time. Terribly designed game, blows my mind how it's like top 5 in sales every year
Because gun and boob and says bad words hur hur btw did you know its them evil womz ruining gaming?
You might be able to sort of "tab out" if you have an NVIDIA graphics card, go into the NVIDIA Control Panel > Display > "Adjust desktop size and position" and set "Perform scaling on:" to "GPU" (it may stop working after a restart or your driver updates so you may need to do it again). It's an extremely important graphics option that is apparently disabled by default by other genius user-friendly company NVIDIA. It basically prevents applications that use "exclusive full-screen" from directly controlling your monitor's display mode.
Side note: also make sure in NVIDIA Control Panel that you're using full color resolution under "Change resolution" at the bottom, for me it was on a gross looking TV mode for like 2 years and it looks so much better switching to "Full" output dynamic range.
It's somehow faster to boot into single player mode and then launch online mode from there.
But yeah, that loading screen drove me crazy. Tabbed out to talk to a friend on discord and it took me like 15 minutes to realize the game wasn't even loading anymore because the game really does take that long.
I finally uninstalled that behemoth a month ago. All I did was log on and go on night drives while listening to music to unwind after work a bit. Not worth 75 damned gigs of storage and having to log into Rockstar Social Club and all that shit. I live in a place where the internet can get spotty and it was nice not being able to play the game I bought because my ISP shat its pants.
American/Euro Truck sim is better for casual night drives. Much better sound design and you don't have to deal with cop attacks.
I've since moved onto Elite: Dangerous, give that a whirl if you ever want to try your hand at being a Space Trucker. However, I appreciate the recommendation. I've always been interested in those games, especially the Euro one because I've never been to Europe and it would be a fun way to explore around for the cost of the game and a few hours of electricity.
Speaking of sound design, the sound in Elite is just perfect, they really nailed that one. That awful humming as you pass through the docking ports seems to vibrate inside my head if I turn up the volume, its weird and awesome and I love it.
CK? Not sure yet, it's still pretty new. I use a rotating stock of mods for Stellaris and the launcher makes it easy to toggle mods and dlc
I don't really know, I haven't played too much lol. Just occasionally drive around.
so I grabbed the star warz shooty game for free (its still for free now) on the epic games store and when you go to install the game it has to install the ea launcher to install it on there. Once the game is finished installing there's literally no where to click "play game" thats installed through ea's launcher you have to go to the epic store and launch the game there, which brings up the ea store and finally the game starts.
I don't rage about it or anything, even having all the dumb launchers isn't too big a pain in the ass once you've used them a few times and they're not taking up a bunch of computing power just idling but god damn is it all counter-intuitive from a new user perspective.
the rockstar launcher tho, fuck that one the most.
On an alternate note, I gotta say kudos to Medieval Dickhead Simulator 3 for just having a single quick-loading launcher with a continue button that takes you straight to your latest save (and tells you what that save was) without any faffing about with publisher splash screens or main menus or fucking uplay or any of that shit. More of that please
That one's good as hell, Paradox is pretty solid when it comes to launchers. I like how it lets you modify your mod loadout
Yeah it's a great game all-round, but they really knocked it out of the park with all the UI/UX stuff in particular
that's 6 different viewports that were opened inside the same chamber that's shown in the Videodrome tape, except this time the people that were participating in the torture ritual are looking at your silly face as you play this game. Your life is now the videodrome and these seedy people are sharing every moment you use a computer.
And for me it brings up the Windows User Account Control prompt EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! (literally the most trash software design ever) And Red Dead Redemption 2 goes through the same thing. Absolutely contrived. At least let me launch it from the trash Rockstar launcher like I can do with Ubisoft games.
