Imagine having one of these people be your therapist so when you say "my outlook on life is grim and I don't see a positive future" they just say "this new administration is going to fix things" :doomjak:
I just don't get how American adults who have been alive and witnessed a lot of the crimes we've committed just chuck that shit to the wayside and forget about it or internalize it and say it was a good thing. It's so damaging to the point where, like you said, you can't even seek help without being ingratiated by this bullshit.
It's like completely separate realities just coexisting and clashing smh
Seriously, my therapist went to college for free because that's how the public university system was when they were my age and when I say "gosh I would love to finish my degree but it's 30k a year" they just say "this administration is focused on fixing that and creating good jobs" Something about making $200 an hour really turns your brain to mush or something. I have been joking about charging him $200 an hour to explain American history and economics.
They're not trying to reason with you, they're trying to get you to a mental state where you can be productive. The individualistic approach to mental health is fundamentally inadequate, but capitalism/Liberalism aren't equipped to address that. Citations Needed had a great episode on this not too long ago, if you're interested!

Several comments expressed interest so I figured I'd just post the link here. Hope it helps bring ya'all a little comfort and better understanding. Solidarity to my neuro-divergent comrades.
Fufkkkk I can relate. I feel like wayyy too many therapists are shitlibs. I want to open up about my existential depression and capitalism and the environment but when I start to go in that direction, they just seem genuinely confused.
