She is under the influence of "venom", a highly-addictive compound engineered to multiply one's physical strength. The venom supplied by her mask gives her an advantage by enhancing her strength, speed and reflexes to almost superhuman levels, though many times Batman has used this to incapacitate her by cutting off her supply.
