I think American colleges (idk this is a thing anywhere else in the world) obsession with making students take a few 101 classes “outside their major” their freshman year has really rotted peoples brains. Everyone suddenly thinks their an amateur in that field now cuz they took two weekend courses on it. They all ignore intro classes are usually really poor summations of the field, present complex topics in a reductive manner, and are often taught by adjuncts who’s education wasn’t even in that field. So you get all these Reddit Debate-Bros thinking they “owned” someone better read in the field cuz something they said seems to contradict something they half remember from freshman 101. They never learned by your junior year your professors tell you to throw out half the crap from 101, or that well read autodidacts are usually smarter than 101 teachers.

I kind of fell into getting an AA in Public Policy. I never heard the words "socialism" or "communism" in any class.

In a similar vein, there are so many nerds on the internet who took an intro level econ course or two in undergrad (very possibly from a prof who's chair is funded by the Koch brothers or some other right wing think tank) who think they understand everything about econ and that neoliberalism is of course the best system ever when all they really have is a biased, basic knowledge of political economy.

Ask him about his views on Phrenology, which was taught in Nazi Germany. There was only one man who stood up during the lecture and said: "This is wrong!" - stood up and gave a real lecture, the audience erupted in spontaneous cheers afterwards. That man's name? Einstein!
Here is the text of his speech.

(Einstein emigrated to not be killed by Nazis, the above part is fiction (except for the phrenology being taught).
