After hitting a pothole yesterday and following off my bike in the middle of a busy road, I was suddenly reminded of my mortality, and the fragility of my very body. Henceforth, I'm not investing in a ton of bike safety gear, so I don't die.

So, now I'm looking for a decent backpack that I can use on my commute. It should…

  • have a protected compartment for my helmet
  • more importantly, fit my laptop bag (360 x 290 x 22 mm), my Switch case (265 x 135 x 55 mm), and maybe my copy of Watchmen that I'll never get around to reading (265 x 170 x 25 mm), etc
  • most importantly, be highly visible

I'd also be interested in whatever tail lights you recommend. I'd be interest in one that includes a brake light.

Osprey makes good (but expensive) high-visibility backpacks. They also have a really good airflow system which is a huge plus for keeping your back from getting super sweaty.
