I'd be surprised if they couldn't at least make manslaugher stick. The prosecutor for this case is a comrade, not a coverup artist who's buddy-buddy with the police.

that's how capitalism "works". if they don't have goons who can murder people with impunity their power doesn't exist. it doesn't even matter if their goons are specifically murdering to protect capital or just murdering because of their own bigotry. their only power is through our fear of being murdered. it's why nothing will change short of a bloody revolution.

Power flows from the barrel of a gun, and cops have the guns. The state cannot hold them accountable while relying on them to defend capitalist property relations.

I fear this too. Another thing I hate is the "defund the police" narrative, no abolish the police.

yeah, defund the police was easy enough to co-opt and destroy. "yeah lets do that! oh wait, actually we need that money to go to the police, aw shucks." there is no co-opting abolish those mother fuckers.

That, or they just lop 10% off the already bloated budget, do nothing to increase accountability or challenge qualified immunity and call it a day.

Oh god he's going to walk, isn't he? They're already getting ready, just like they did when they acquitted Breonna Taylor's murderer.

"We need to be better at reaching out to minority communities"
    Hey that's cool and good!
"We're going to pay influences $2000 to say what we want them to say"
    Ah.

If you just start cutting $2000 $1400 checks to people, how do you find enough hard-up social media shills to drown out anti-cop agitation on social media?

Quick, how do we convince them that we're influencers and collect the money?

Yeah, I was thinking about that as I read this part specifically:

Friday, the Minneapolis City Council approved $1,181,500 for communications around the trial, which include money for the social media influencer campaign. City coordinator Mark Ruff said during a council meeting on Friday, where the funding was voted on and approved, that the city’s “anticipation is that those contracts will be around de-escalation and increased community communication … [it] will be emphasizing communications especially on cultural radio and through social media influencers and making sure we get the word out about what’s happening with the trials.”

He added that they will also focus on “what the options are for the community to engage, and particularly communities who are not utilizing the city's website or other traditional media sources where there will be information also disseminated."

It’s incredibly funny to me that they’re gonna try and “spread awareness” about a fucking Facebook to comment on or whatever, when there are gonna be thousands of incredibly, justifiably pissed off people reading to burn the city to the fucking ground.

I just can’t imagine being the person who thinks to themselves, “well, last time people rioted for weeks straight and burned down a police station, among other things. Maybe this time we can funnel that energy into some bullshit see-and-say shit”
