    Breed specific bans don't work.

And if you say they do, why is it different breeds in different jurisdictions and why does it not do anything to stop the issue?

It was Rotweilers, then Dobermans, then German Shepherds, then Pit Bulls, now XL Bullies. Pretty sure the fucking NIMBYs would want to ban Great Danes if one was never trained or trained to be a threat.

It's never the breed, it's how the dog was treated.

Obvious exception being the Chiauaua (kinda not serious). Unless every Chiauaua owner doesn't train them.

I've seen a 3 y/o have total control of a pit bull. I've seen adults struggle to contain terriers. The whole problem is improperly trained dogs.

You shouldn't leave a kid who doesn't know how to interact with dogs alone regardless of how behaved the dog (of any breed). Just like you shouldn't leave cats with young children. As neither are trained.

The attraction to these larger breeds is the same that makes people choose small breeds, or cats, fish, horses, or any other pet . Unless you are choosing it to be a working dog, it's a companion and there is no accounting for taste.

Treat the animal (train if possible) well and it shouldn't be an issue unless you choose an exotic pet that doesn't have a history of being tamed or domesticated (like tigers, or komodo dragons and such)

A 3 year old can control a large dog if the dog wants to be controlled. If the dog wants to go do something else, that kid is going to have no chance to keep it in place.

I don't think big dogs are any meaner or more violent than other dogs, and they can be just as sweet, but there's a big difference between a poorly-raised pit and a poorly-raised dachshund when it comes to how much damage they are capable of, and how easy they are to stop.

I feel like the thing with "scary" dogs is related to the problems we're seeing with guns and stuff too. The same type of person who wpuld want a gun or a big truck would probably also want a pitbull, they're "tough-looking" but they don't wanna put in the effort to earn it.

I fucking hate these government bans. They have people drive around neighborhoods, looking for somebody taking their dog outside to go harass. Then, they will kill your dog because your dog is the wrong breed and charge you hundreds of dollars for the privilege of not going to jail over it. I also think there's a racial attribute to this, considering that Pitbulls are a particularly popular breed among black people in America. We were fine with Pitbulls up until the 60's and 70's when they lost their prestige and became a pet for minorities. We're fine with German Shepards, one of the most dangerous and aggressive dog breeds, because they're white people dogs. Wanna ban dogs? Fine, ban all the aggressive dogs then. Only banning pitbulls is casually racist

Shitty Pitbull breeders also don't let their dogs go outside and just keep them holed up in a basement, so the enforcement ends up just harassing normal citizens taking care of their dogs properly.

Think it's pretty short sighted to think that America and UK are really all that different culturally. These are laws that are being passed across the west right now, so it clearly isn't just a UK problem. People of all classes and races own every dog breed, just like people of all classes and races do pretty much everything. But the information we have available on Pitbull owners say that they're predominantly black or latine. These regulations come with enforcement, which yes, would mean people driving around to look for Pitbulls. I mean how the fuck do TV licenses get enforced, right? Saying that laws come with no active enforcement is willfully ignorant on a board like Hexbear.

Also, British colonialism is one of the key cornerstones of American race issues. Y'all literally had people nuke the economy to dunk on the rest of Europe for liking brown people. To suggest that the UK doesn't have another strain of typical western race issues is also willfully ignorant. This is literally the point of casually racist laws, to give people plausible deniability because it's really actually about keeping people safe from trashy dog owners, ignoring that those "trashy dog owners" are predominantly minorities according to the information we have. This is another law to send people around neighborhoods, looking for people to ruin their days.

Also, you suggesting that the dogs won't be killed. Pitbulls are getting banned on the island. What the fuck else are they going to do, deport them to Australia? If they're a pitbull, they're automatically classified as a dangerous dog under this act. So yes, they're going to drive around neighborhoods and look for dogs to put down. If you want a pitbull ban, say it with your chest. You are supporting the government killing people's dogs. To try to deflect with "only the dangerous ones" will be killed when the legislation says pitbulls are dangerous means you either don't understand what you're saying, or you do and are just intentionally dishonest.
