  • Recently I've stumbled upon a YT channel called "Good fight ministries" or something of that sort and it was all about how transgenders and celebrities are satan so pretty average stuff, using bible verses way out of context to twist them to be a condemnation of Hollywood directors (using clips of them talking about being inspired as proof of possession) and singers I've never heard of (Jesus famously said grammies are evil i guess), but this then led me down a rabbit hole of crazy "Christian spiritual warfare" videos where schizos and grifters bang on about defending yourself against demons that posses you at night, with one lady claiming some sort of ghoul was "strumming" her spine at night. Unironically all these people need Jesus.

  • you know theres plenty of situations in the us were families need to approve of you transitioning, or are you conveniently ignoring that?

No I don't actually, I'd be interested to hear about this? As far as I'm aware, blue US states all have informed consent as the treatment model for adults, basically world standard in that regard.

    Wow an imperialist

I think just because I critique an empire you like from an anarchist perspective doesn't make me an imperialist, but we can agree to disagree I suppose.

Struggle where you are, fight in your workplace, support and raise awareness for international causes at home.

One doesn't exclude the other. I'm not sitting about foaming at the mouth about China all day, we're just having a discussion and I'm open to hearing your perspective.

  • I might be taking a meme way too seriously, buuuut.

Okay, if life in China and the US is about equal if not better in favour of China - why not go live there?

I wouldn't. Why? No trans rights. Familial approval for medication is a killer for trans people, in practice it might as well be a ban outside of two neighbourhoods in San Francisco. Not to mention the clamping down on DIY, which unlike the west, the Chinese government has real power to actually enforce to some extent.

So the US is better off in that regard, I'd much rather live there and their government positions align more with my own and I'm anti-China and "anti-authoritarian" in that sense, but still a socialist.

    Why wouldn't I be?

This is just one example, there are others. So I think it's disingenuous to frame Libertarian socialists/anarchists as purely just simping for 'murikkka when many of them are readily willing to admit US bad too, just less bad in some ways.

Just turn off watch history (turns off recommendations and the home page) and use the subscription feed exclusively. Suggested videos will only appear based on your currently watched video, so completely unpersonalized

Use DeArrow! It not only removes clickbait thumbnails, but replaces them with community-sourced ones, allowing one to choose a thumbnail frame from the video and have it better put up for a vote, and it does the same thing for the video's title! It's made by the same guy who made Sponsorblock.

  • Okay so I'm from a third world shithole but I still don't get it

In the west it seems that most people rent phones on contract from a mobile service provider, which includes the mobile service like calls, texts and data all in one monthly payment, is that correct? If so, why? It seems weirdly bottlenecked, I see people confused that their MSP doesn't "have a {phone_model}" and I'm bewildered by this.

Back in my original country, people buy phones like other gadgets from a tech shop mostly, usually outright, then separately they will buy a SIM card from an MSP store, which they then top up online or with an ATM type machine where you can top-up numbers with cash.

Usually your SIM will have a tariff, which will consume X money per SMS/minute/GB, and you can also use this cash mobile balance to pay online in many stores. There is usually not a cap on how much you can actually use MSP services, all data is effectively unlimited, you only pay as you use it, and you can also pre-pay to have unlimited data without charge for a certain time period. There isn't really any kind of monthly cycle, you just top up as you run out (hopefully before).

Carrier-locking is also not really a thing.

MSPs will often also sell you phones at their syores, but their selection is usually quite limited and mostly there for convenience. In the UK I do see tech shops carrying phones as well on display, but I've never actually met anyone IRL who acquired phones this way outright.

On the other hand online - people seem to just buy second hand off eBay, then get a separate SIM card, that's much more like what I'm used to, and what I myself do, but I don't know why this isn't more popular.

  • Honestly I think JO is more positive than negative even from a far-left perspective, he often does deep dives into obscure issues and not only speaks truth to power about things like institutional racism and bigotry - even placing it in a historical context (rather than simply going all slay slay girlbossx in an aestheticly liberal way) - but also gives practical immediate solutions that while not solve the issue entirely - can help alleviate the pain experienced right now, which is still a force for good.

Sure addressing the cause of a bleed is desirable and the only true solution in the end, but if someone is going around handing out bandages and plasters in the meantime to those bleeding profusely and maybe forgotten or neglected by those with bigger ideas - it's not a bad thing.

We live in a world of shades of grey, it's fine to dunk on libs, but it's disingenuous to pretend at least some of them aren't dedicated to acts of good at least in some respects. I think as far as late night TV entertainment goes, this show hits that spot.

His team of writers is clearly diverse and has lots of representation of women and PoC which really started to shine circa 2020 and I've thoroughly enjoyed everything they've done and learned a lot - especially with regards to racism and how it affects actual real specific people with names and faces today in practice - even though ultimately liberalism is not good.
