The rhetoric from people suggesting anyone is beyond redemption for something they did as a mi or was ridiculous and moralizing. But the people countering that his character is above question and there should be no consequences for him now are over-correcting, imo. This guy is very young, and he's unproven. I'd be skeptical of electing him even if he didn't have a checkered past. If he spends the coming years doing things that demonstrate real contrition and growth, and gets some accomplishments under his belt that showcase his leadership skills, he would be a better candidate, and I would hope more people would be willing to consider him reformed.

I feel like it's kind of sexist to assume women are more likely to be manipulated because of their gender?

There are plenty of fucked up age-gap relationships, and I don't doubt there is a real phenomena of older men preying on younger adult partners. But the problems in these relationships arise from differences in status, power, wealth and stability, etc, not from the age gap itself.

I'm curious to know when the Amherst College Democrats will release an open letter banning actual rapists Joe Biden and Bill Clinton from their campus events. I think I'll be waiting a while...

Until I see specific allegations of concrete harm from individual accusers, I have to conclude this is a smear campaign with homophobic undertones. I can't even find the original letter, to find out more specifics.
