The people who said that a vote for Macron in 2017 was a vote for Le Pen in 2022 are being proven right.

Feckless liberals cheered when their big wet boy became president of France and imagined him to be the guy to show a centrist path to defeating the extremes of the right and the left.

What happened was that he did nothing to address the issues making people angry and insecure. Instead he made it worse with harsh neoliberal reforms.

Meanwhile he also did nothing to fight racist and right-wing authoritarian ideology, to the contrary he appeased the far right by enacting highly racist legislation, either because he is racist himself or because he attempted to triangulate popular opinion. Either way instead of marginalising racism and reactionary views he ended up stoking them.

He's a former succdem by the way and adds to the pile of evidence that succdems are objectively some of the most horrible people in existence.

All the left wing organizing energy during Trump era had already dissipated

I think most folks are just burned out.

During the Trump era there was a sense in the mainstream that things were not okay. He was saying all the quiet parts out loud and people didn't like it. Today all the resistance libs have gone back to sleep.

If it's any comfort, the beautiful brunchers were never going to be allies when push came to shove. The spectacle of Trump was a black hole of political energy, and we can now focus on more important shit. It may seem like politics has died down, but I think we're all just preparing for the next catastrophe.

The democrats are succdem adjacent. They might not fly red banners on May Day but they fill the same role of being the good cop of the bourgeois state, a lightning rod for public discontent, that prevents it from damaging the capitalist order.

The stupidest think about Macron isn't the grift-based attitude towards policy, or his Islamaphobia. It's his racism against the French.

I remember be once complimented the Danish government on its people's work ethic, calling his own 'Gaulic' people lazy moochers.

Yeah, and It seems like millennial gen in EU is much more open to a right-wing move, even in a country with historical strong left wing presence like France.

Anyway, I’m no political analyst, one could only hope things could get better for him once the campaign get kickstarted.

I'm there and it sucks, basically left wing parties have been destroyed so all the people angry (rightfully) at Macron turn to his right (50% of workers vote Lepen) also islamophobia :france-cool: :france-cool: :france-cool: :france-cool:

Macron is such a fucking awful neoliberal ghoul that he practically handed it to le Pen. Macron should bounce and let anyone else take on le pen.

Didn’t his Interior secretary go on a debate with Le Pen and have her defend freedom of religion in favor of Muslims? The libs have Max libbed, they’re just a complete tirefire.

I feel like France needs Le Pen. It would be a Trumpian punishment to their ruling class. The people would wipe their asses and smear the used toilet paper in the nostrils of the rulers. Maybe they'd get the message that the government needs to favor the people. You can say Le Pen is awful, and you wouldn't be wrong, but...shoot, that's the whole idea. What other choice do the people have? Re-elect Macron and watch the rulers laugh up their sleeves while they congratulate themselves on fooling the idiots once again?

Of course, this didn't work in America. Instead of taking note and making corrective actions in favor of the people so that populism would simmer down, our rulers instead took it as an assassination attempt and are trying to crush us utterly. The best way to get rid of populists is to steal their positions, but this 100% did not happen.

The one good think about Le Pen is she wants to leave NATO.

But Melenchon is an actually good option. You don't need to vote fash to own the libs.

I would say that this is a bad idea because of the danger it poses for France’s minority population, but Macron is running to LaPen’s right, on Islam at the very least, so now... :agony:

It’s pretty simple to figure out,

Last time the media really only cared to show LePen or Macron. They got Macron, they didnt like him so they want Brand B now.

well if the EU will find no recepie against Le Pen .... She kind of Deserves Le Pen ... , I am not so scared of Le Pen as the Media landscape makes me be... , Somethimes a Wrecking ball is needed to break the stagnation... Le pen would clearly stop "Moral Pretentions" of the France empire like trump did with america , might be a good thing .....

You are currently follow the Vote -Biden mindset of Lesser evil ,

but there is also the "New Dynamics" mindset ,... and sometimes , a new dynamic is needed to break away the old and outlived ...

What can you say about Le Pen gaining votes , its the most predictable outcome there is from Austery and the contiinued advancement of an Death Idea that will not cut it in the End..

To reiterate on the "New Dynamics" Mindset...

Careful with those numbers. They're very alarming but it doesn't necessarily mean a Le Pen victory is imminent (even if more than probable at this rate), or that the whole country has gone fash. First of all, people tend to make more "reasonable" (big quotation marks on this one because the bar is on the floor) decisions on election day. Second of all, this may be representative of voting intentions, but not necessarily of the entire population. Many people in France just don't vote, or vote blank. This isn't 30% of the entire population for this age range.

This is both very alarming and extremely depressing, but unfortunately not surprising. The French "left" seems addicted to losing, and parties like the PCF honestly look like as many psyops to siphon votes away serpent style. The petit-bourgeois "left" has also made it's come back, with figures like Jadot or Hidalgo (the "greens" and the """socialists"""). I think they had somewhat of a project to unite the left in France, but that would exclude anything that was to the left of Mélenchon, or Mélenchon and his party themselves. Which seems to have been a disaster anyway since PS and EELV are running separately. lol. a farce.

On the other hand Macron & friends (that is, the billionaires that own garbage medias like CNEWS or BFMTV) have just been unwrapping a red carpet to Le Pen, with their fascist-style islamophobic politics, which would need an entire ass post of their own, and fascist TV show hosts such as Zemmour or Prault, who spew bullshit and hatred on national television. Macron is basically sacrificing the country to the Great Capital during a pandemic, and needs a scapegoat, which, of course was going to be Islam and leftism (tbt judeo-bolchevism :D) . This is nothing new in France, as the prime minister of the previous government (Hollande's government, PM was Valls) was also a violent, idiotic islamophobe who employed words like "islamo-leftism" before it became even bigger of a phenomenon .

Anyway. I am not particularly saddened by this whole thing. Communism will win, one way or the other. Even if the only victory we get is the bitter satisfaction of knowing we were right as we watch civilization collapse under the weight of crumbling capitalism.

The unelected French government wouldn't allow Le Pen to do anything real anyway. The elected governments stay for a few years but the bureaucracy will outlast them. Those people are in office for 30-40 years and have weathered many storms and know exactly how to cut the tendons of the beast.

I mean the French senate is chewing on individual liberties as we speak. Macron's government, elected or unelected, is already doing "real" things. I don't want to be that guy who says "they said the same thing about Hitler", but they did say the same thing about Hitler. Comparing Le Pen to the NSDAP seems far fetched but her party was co-founded by an actual SS. I don't mean to say that France is necessarily going to become a full on dystopian fascist regime if Le Pen is elected, but we should definitely not underestimate the damage RN can do.

The UK unelected government was saying the same thing right before it was a real possibility Corbyn would be elected - "don't worry, we've got it under control, we won't let him do anything."

We have to realize just how little power the elected government has in this day and age.

I seem to remember that Macrons victory last time around was a pretty close call against LePen already. With my limited understanding of French politics, it looked like after his election, he went on to very openly make things worse for the general population. Imagine their reaction after being told to "Allez vous fück yourselves" (not good). Maybe I'm wrong though, French people always pretend to not understand any other languages so who knows what they're up to (classic EU joke there for you)

In slightly hopeful news, Mélenchon isn't too far behind Macron. Maybe he could make it to the second round against Le Pen?

This is only among young people, Melenchon's strongest (and Macron's weakest) demographic. Macron and Le Pen are still miles ahead of everyone else in the first round.

Everyone on the right of Mélenchon would encourage people to vote Le Pen in this case. This isn't a joke. In 2016 every mainstream TV channel were "sounding the alarm" on the rise of "populism", which meant Mélenchon, while they allowed Le Pen to calmly climb up the ladder.
