We used to think that fighting McDs fires was the key to good suburban health. But civic planners have recently discovered that these franchises catch fire and burn down as part of the cyclical nature of retail fast food ecology. Within a few months, you're going to see a half dozen James Cooney Islands, Five Guys Burgers, In-And-Outs, and boutique food trucks springing up throughout the neighborhood. They're going to generate a whole new biome of nascent indie fast food that will eventually re-consolidate into a Big 3 franchise over the next decade.

I perform a final safety check of my climbing harness and tuck my hand-painted "DEFEND OLD-GROWTH MCDONALD'S" sign into a pack slung over my shoulder. I begin my climb to a makeshift platform in the golden canopy of the illuminated sign where I will live for as long as it takes to defend the American wilderness

Many racists thought the KKK went too far when they made that sponsorship agreement with McDonald's.

    The arches are on fire

and there's no cashier at the till

And the ice cream machine is all muddied with a thousand gallons of high-fructose corn syrup

    And a dark wind blows
