Woke: he shouldn’t be Spider-Man because his dad is a cop
Cops are good in the fictional universe of Spider-Man (and almost all superheroes), and he works with them regularly.
Counterpoint: Miles Morales makes the perfect Spider-Man because his father is a cop. This is perfect teenage rebellion behaviour.
How? Spider-man is on the side of the cops. He should be the Scorpion or something.
That would be a really cool idea too. He's still got the spider powers, but takes on that mantle and doesn't follow Spiderman's influence as directly. Not exactly antihero, but a more nuanced attempt at a hero in a racist country.
I mean when cops are fighting bomb wielding flying goblins…
Which goblin are we talking about? The corrupt billionaire who keeps buying his way out of jail because his super-monopoly business affords him leverage over the criminal justice system all the way up to the national level?
Or the mercenary-cum-mob hitman who stole tech from the corrupt billionaire to do Jackle-style freelance crime work for the highest bidder?
I mean, if I lived in the Spider-Man universe I would rather have him around than not around, since the million local supervillains are trying to kill literally everyone on a daily basis. Same with Batman while we're at it.
Batman's big villains are:
-
A latino wrestler on drugs
-
A two-faced politician
-
A lesbian eco-terrorist
-
A research scientist trying to get money to cure his sick cryogenically frozen wife
-
A crippled migrant from Eastern Europe who got rich brokering vice crimes
-
An evil comedian
Any one of these people would be more fun to hang out with than Batman. Batman sucks. Fuck Batman.

which one is the wrestler on drugs? trying to remember batman shit from playing lego batman 10 years ago
wait then whos the vice crimes guy? lego batman may not be the most in depth sorce of batman lore?
thanks, for some reason i thought both of them were the crocodile guy
Nah. I'd completely forgotten about Killer Croc. I think he was just, like, a circus entertainer or something. Another great example of Batman beating down on the working class, though.

The Capeshit is absolutely rife with "I or my parochial figure was a cop/soldier and that's why I'm a superhero now" backstories. E-fucking-specially with black heroes.
I mean there's space for an interesting story arc around here where Morales radicalizes after seeing his dad circle the wagons around something like George Floyd
Disney will never allow Marvel to do it, but they could
peter parker is the best spider-man because he willingly consorts with and also sometimes fucks Black Cat who is just out there stealing shit from rich fucks
I've seen arguments that he's more of a working-class hero than others in comics. He's broke, tries not too go excessively violent and generally tries to stay in touch with his community.
However, he's subject to comics and us copaganda in general.
In the PS4 Spiderman, he works with cops regularly (he does in the comics too, but still) and pushes the hypothetical character of Spidercop.
In the MCU, they alter the 'with great power' line to be more about punishment than responsible use of power. Here's an interesting discussion of copaganda in the MCU that goes into more detail.
It's frustrating that capitalism twists any potential story into more apologia.
