you know how people, especially on twitter, try and share their absolute dogshit takes without a care for humility, just unbribled stubbornness

everybody seem so full of themselves and I just can't bring myself to trust anyone unless they show a hint of doubt over their own thoughts, and that's flat out absent from most social media

idk, I don't think I did a good jb describing what I feel, it's hard to accurately put into words

but like, do you have stuff you usually keep to yourself, because like you know the thought isn't well rounded or something and you don't want to say something incorrect. or like interrogations about stuff you can't really answer by yourself

For me it's complete legalization of drugs, I want it but I've brought it up a couple times drunk and have realized that I have no idea what the correct argument for it is and I don't like "debate me!" situations in general so I've never googled for arguments for it.

Drugs are fun and honestly alcohol is one of the worst and it's legal. That's always been my argument.

Another good, easy argument is that people are going to do them anyways, and legalization just makes that fact less harmful to society. There's no worrying about getting in trouble if you take someone to the hospital who needs help, there's no life-destroying incarceration.

We tried prohibition twice now and it's failed spectacularly each time.

what I like the most about legal drugs is that I've seen some headlines about studies saying like, this of that psychedelic have positive effects on health, especially mental health. and I think that challenge (mental health crisis)in particular is probably gonna revolve around some sort of self-medication , and that opens a door to experimentation

I feel like the Portugal model has proved itself pretty well: drug addiction is an administrative offense rather than criminal, allow clean environments to do drugs, if someones caught with drugs have them go in front of a panel with an attorney, a psychiatrist and a social worker and have them understand the situation etc you can read about the policy and effects here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_policy_of_Portugal#Observations

You should try the book Chasing the Scream. It's a really enjoyable, easy read and gives you a good overview of the history of drug prohibition. Touches on Portugal's policies, the reasons for addiction and how to treat it, etc. I was for complete legalization before reading it and it solidified my belief and deepened my hatred for the US and our prison system. Was brought to tears a few times by the stories of how addicts were treated. I can actually send you the audiobook if you'd like.
