Niantic is an American company but otherwise, considering there was a running app that ended up mapping US military bases because soldiers would use it while jogging around them, this really isn't that far-fetched

It always strikes me as useless information overload.

Like, I get the thing about the Fitbit mapping the base, but I have to believe there are a dozen other ways this location could have been noticed. Ways that don't involve sifting through reams of crap.

It would be funny if, in some future war, Americans have all their positions picked out and fucked up because they've been live-blogging it all on Instagram. But I have to assume this isn't the only way the military is getting mapped.

Pokemon Go's really not that great for tracking you. Like don't get me wrong, I'm sure Niantic could be involved in shady shit like every tech company. But it has you behave in ways that you normally wouldn't while playing it, so the data about where you go is gonna be filled with junk data about going to parks at 2 am cause you spotted a Snorlax on your nearby.
