It always pains me to see declassified CIA docs admitting to lies and the public at large acting like it's out of context, contradicts with what they learned in history class or is photoshopped :agony-limitless:

I learned from Ray McGovern that the CIA is essentially two agencies: operations and analysis. The operations department does all of the black ops, psy ops, coups, etc. Analysis just investigates and tells it like it is, because you need to know what the truth is before you can construct a convincing lie. This document was probably produced by analysis.

Given what we know about the CIA controlling academia it is more accurate that engineering firms are structured like the cia

More accurate to say those are departments within the agency, with subdepartments being stuff underneath those departments like supply and logistics for Ops, with stuff like HUMIT and foreign media monitoring for Analysis.

Why would western powers want the USSR to abandon “collective leadership” in favor of streamlining their power organization

Also because keeping stakeholders out of decision making is destabilizing. Capitalists disinvest, workers strike, bureaucrats gatekeep, and everything falls apart. The key is to give your subjects and constituents just enough that they don't revolt.

Declassified CIA reports be like "Yeah, the Soviet Union is just another average country, not this dysfunctional, evil society we make them out to be, but we're still going to tell everyone that they are.

I think most people who do this shit find a system to be a part of, and then build themselves and their conscience around being the good guy for that choice. I don't know how to save them when it breaks, and I don't know how not to hate them until it does.

There's no rhyme or reason or logic. I find it all super fucking grim.
