I think "day in the life" should be mandatory on a recurring basis for anyone in charge of anyone else.
Though in my experience, when bosses fail those, they do a bush Mission Accomplished thing and just gaslight you like they totally did it and it wasn't a spectacular failure.
Thing is that process only taking a day would require the boss to be trained up enough for that process to only last a single day, which means it would have to happen pretty often. Personally, I like to get in the trenches for at least an hour a day and if shit hits the fan you better believe I’m in there. Managers who don’t do the work they manage are incompetent. Period.
