I didn't enjoy the 3rd part as much Battle Tendency, personally, but the following part (part 4 / diamond is unbreakable) is probably my fave out of the entire series, and possibly one of my top anime series of all time if it were a standalone show.

If you don't like the part 3 anime, try watching the part 3 OVA instead! It's shorter and takes place in an alternate universe where Jotaro is an awkward but good natured guy who loves his friends 😌

Not that you need any more persuading, but parts of the first half and the entire second half have some really gorgeous animation. Episode 12 was storyboarded by Satoshi Kon and in fact was his big break in the animation industry at the time.

It also tries to address some of the issues with Araki's writing in part 3, such as his treatment of women and the bystanders in the various countries the protagonists visit. It also has some surprising rewrites to include the character Avdol in more of the story overall. It's not perfect (away from the comparison with the source material, the treatment of women is not great, and episodes 4 and 5 are still really bad about the Indian background characters) but I like almost all of the story changes over the original manga tbh

          Yeah I'm biased but still

yeah. he still shows up but he's recontextualized as an extremely awkward man who sucks at interpersonal stuff and who isn't cool at all despite being very good at punching (which retroactively makes him more tolerable in part 3). part 3 has some incredible bits but almost all the important ones are in the ova, and the later parts are all better than part 3

part 4 is incredible small town drama with some great dumbass teens hanging out, part 5 has a protagonist whose about 20 times blander than jotaro but is otherwise mostly good, part 6 rules and has a bunch of kickass ladies and the best jojo, part 7 is a masterpiece of homoeroticism and antifascist action with some genuinely good politics, part 8 is a lynchian nightmare, and part 9 is about zoomer crime in occupied hawaii

People's opinions on the arcs vary. Though the third is one of the more beloved ones, if anything people say to skip the first two get to it faster lol.

By edge mcedge face do you mean Dio? Damn he's a rather well loved villian lol.

no I meant the third jojo. dio and jonathan jostar were the best so far. if the nazis weren't the good guys, the second arc would also be pretty good imo. but god the third is unbearable

jotaro is for sure the most edgelord of all the jojos, Josuke comes immediately after and is wayyy more personable

personally i dont mind jotaro, he's almost so edgy it comes around to being camp - but not all the time, unfortunately

i will warn you, jotaro IS in part 4, but he's far more matured and more palatable as a background character, if you find him too much in part 3

Jotaro is like the second main character in part 4. Calling him a background character is a stretch.

no, the main character is Koichi, and Josuke is the second main

'not the main character' might be more accurate, thats fair lol

The entire show is infused with camp, and Jotaro's stoic nature is played for laughs fairly often. Also I am very amused by the idea that Araki doesn't seem to understand the concept of a uniform, given that's what both Jotaro and Kakyoin are supposed to be wearing. It's worth noting they go to the same school.

Hey, Jotaro's uniform is personally modified as part of his delinquent persona (many of the cast of Diamond is Unbreakable similarly have customized uniforms). And it's very possible Kakyoin doesn't go to Jotaro's school, he claimed to be a transfer student but it may have just been part of the literal brainwormed ploy to try and kill him.

He gets it replaced on short notice in Egypt, as an exact copy of the one destroyed in the prior episode, and that's even funnier

Also when you get to Stone Ocean and literally none of the prisoners have clothing that resemble any other prisoners it's clear that Araki is either having a laugh or genuinely does not understand what a uniform is

You have a point but I think the funniest example of Araki's design philosophy is when he has a character in Vento Aureo say that mafia members dress discreetly and don't stand out in a crowd and then proceeds to design the entire rest of the cast Like That

I never understood this sentiment; my favorite parts were the first two; the third was decent-ish for me, and then everything beyond just went downhill. I never liked stands, I preferred the mystic powers instead.

I started Jojo with part 3 because of the memes then went to part 1 and 2 so I have a soft spot for part 3.

Yes definitely, the middle part of Stardust Crusaders is some of the worst of JoJo. Part 4 is a lot more light hearted and mostly better (I don't much like the first third but most people do). Part 5 and 6 have some of the best fights and part 7 is just straight up the best, it's JoJo without all of the bullshit that drags it down. The politics in part 7 are a complete 180 from the days of Nazis being the food guys, the main villain is the president yof the USA and his stand is basically an allegory for imperialism. Also actual literal Jesus Christ is in it
