    hm i wonder if state investment in a functioning educational system might have some correlation with a culture that values education? no of course its the damn cell phones.

    like i've been hearing the "china's beating the US in education" fearmongering my whole life, but somehow this never translates to borrowing any policy ideas from them.

      Americans hear, "X country is doing Y way better than we are".

      Their first thought isn't, "How do we replicate this"?

      Their first thought is, "This must be a lie. If it's true we have to find some way to undermine this".

    Lol what? That's not how TikTok or Douyin work... There's science stuff on TikTok and dances on Douyin. this person is just either just revealing they're only into dance stuff and just assume china=must be studying all the time or they just read boomer articles about it and assume they're true

    I have heard the thing about Douyin having a preference for showing educational content in some sense...

    But even supposing that's the case, this is simply Capitalists doing the most profitable thing in a given set of material conditions, which in the US is selling people this or whatever, and in China, it's what the CPC wants. :xinternet:
