Perfectly justified fear, of course, but it really shows how things are getting scary. It was a really unsettling thread how everyone was sharing stories of their conservative relatives or neighbors who daily talk about killing them.

Genuine question: do I need to get a gun? I really do hate the idea of having one. Someone CMV on gun ownership, or tell me I don't necessarily need one please.

I'm actually from an area where everyone target shoots and has guns, and have had a .22 growing up, iron sights, no scope. I wasn't a bad shot then and I'm probably not now.

That being said it just doesn't sit right with me, it's like an anxiety. I don't have a specific concern, but you're right, there's more than one way to be involved and it takes all of us in a lot of different ways.

Also, most ranges won't let you rent a gun unless you bring a buddy (in case someone got the bright idea to rent a gun and off themselves at the range), so make sure you have that covered.

Might be worth starting that conversation with someone you trust, if possible. Otherwise reach out to your local SRA branch.

I'm just uncomfortable with it. I know it's stupid that there's nothing more concrete than that, but it's just how I am.

You’re okay. My wife’s the same way, but understands the sad and grave reality that we may need one in the near future. It’s not a comfortable thought though, that’s for damn sure.
