I need somebody who knows more about the gold standard than I do. my understanding is that gold = currency more stable but also can't arbitrarily print money to grow or something? idk. but what I do know is that it's very significant due to the end of the Bretton Woods system ~50 years ago
I think the argument was that the gold standard caused different types of acute crises since the gold supply was finite but also the price fluctuated greatly as a commodity and governments had less recourse to mitigate effects.

why would you revive the gold standard??? fiat currency is obviously a meme, but so is the arbitrary value of gold. at least with fiat you can make the money printer go brrr easier, which is much better for the economy. hand wringing over inflation from monetary policy is libertarian shit

there's so few people who are gold heads vs like, the entire financial world Russia does most business with. there's a reason basically all places, including places like China, got rid of gold backed currency for fiat. gold basically puts a soft cap on the money supply, which means you have limits on government spending, which is really bad for the economy because the government does gotta do a lot to keep that running, which requires spending
to me it just seems like a temporary hack rather than a long term decision
holy shit they're actually doing the Stalin-era thing. well a part of it anyways. I'm genuinely interested to see where this takes the Russian economy.
