"Prion aggregates are stable, and this structural stability means that prions are resistant to denaturation by chemical and physical agents: they cannot be destroyed by ordinary disinfection or cooking."

There are many, many reasons we don't do a cannibalism.

Agreed, the other quote of note I kinda deliberately left out: "All known prion diseases in mammals affect the structure of the brain or other neural tissue; all are progressive, have no known effective treatment, and are always fatal."

They will mess with your brain, they will do it slowly and agonizingly, and they will, without exception, eventually kill. Prions are scary as hell.

I wonder what will go through this guys head when he is told Comrade Prion is coming for him. "Wait what did you just say? No not the deadly brain disease stuff, this shit is politically progressive too? Fuck me."

Depends. Kuru was observed to most likely effect people who ate brain, but mad cow disease is known to spread evenly throughout an infected cow's tissues.

I remember reading about Funeral Cannibalism in a South american (?) tribe where the brain is the part eaten most of the time along with other softer tissues. There are a common disease called the "laughing disease" affecting people who practice the rite

        Feed Our Starving Azov

and no, it'll be like some YA schlock dystopia novel, if you don't pass the standardized tests you get fed to the Azov Wendigo

Idunno, the protagonists almost always become radical anti-state terrorists, could be worse role models

If you've never read Unwind, its a YA dystopia novel where kids who fail the standardized tests are completely disassembled so their everything can be 'donated' for the people who pass the tests who need parts, like a new heart, or a finger, or lungs, or whatever.

So some kids who fail go AWOL, form a society, and start doing terror bombings and shit

And that’s all well and (very) cool, but it seems like that happens in like every YA novel, just swap out some nouns Mad-Libs style. It’s honestly the general quality of the writing itself that drives me up the wall. There will always be about 2 billion unnecessary and annoying acronyms and ridiculous names for the tech and societal groups or whatever, so basically A Clockwork Orange but somehow that didn’t annoy me. The lexicons just feel really forced.

Also forced: every time a character says “fuck” it feels calculated and above all so lame, like the author is just trying to get cool kid points. Basically same energy as Marvel execs deciding where to place their precision fucks so they can be edgy while still maintaining a PG-13.

I'm not sure if desecrating corpses is a war crime. It's nominally against the UCMJ in America but I have no idea if there's a Ukrainian equivalent law.

The point is that prions can survive boiling and grilling... Y'know, the shit that rots your brain and turns you, and other animals that get infected, into actual zombies

Also the sheer lack of humanity of cannibalism, no words

Prions have to be present, first. Prion disease is extremely rare. You're not likely to contract a prion disease from some random corpse you eat off the street. Kuru only exists because of a long standing cultural practice of eating pieces of the brain of deceased loved ones for spiritual and religious purposes. Mad cow and that sheep one exist because prion infected sheep were being ground up and used as feed on an industrial level.

      TLDR;

Eating people is fine from a health standpoint, just don't make it an intergenerational cultural tradition. IF you're going to do that do the cracker thing catholics do.

It's actually amazing that the Russians couldn't have made better propaganda than this if they tried. Doubly amazing that Ukrainian sources aren't universally denouncing it as a Russian hoax, but instead some seem to be celebrating it.

Very rarely does one side in a war dehumanize itself more effectively than the other side's propaganda.
