Job is really the wrong word of course. But what I'm really asking is what would you love to do if pay/work conditions/environment etc weren't totally terrible.

Like for me I've been dreaming of being a teacher. But I know I'd take a massive pay cut, have to work 100x harder, and be shit on constantly in our current system.

But when I have taught before both professionally and personally it's always a joy. I love explaining things, working with people as they figure out problems, and it really drives me to learn more myself.

I want to run the greasiest spoon of a diner you've ever been to. Food's not bad, but it's cheap and made with love

I would like to be a wizard in a hut in the forest that hands out vaccines, herbal tea, and strange stories.

Tech could be so cool if it wasn't co-opted by capitalism

Right? Instead of automating getting a fancy gift box for some bougie lib we could automate hard labor, feed people, reconstruct our public spaces for all...

In the mornings work in the communal garden/farm, lounge during the day and make food for everyone during the evening,

or a professional game master every night

Id want to be a cook, if the working conditions weren't so awful. I love preparing food and it would be sick to spend my professional time getting better at it instead of doing spreadsheets all day like a useless dumbass

In highschool I choose between being a chef and my current career. I know I made the right choice from a monetary and work conditions perspective but damn I wish I was in a kitchen

My current job but under communism tbh (natural resource management for the government). I’m extremely fortunate in that I went the path of college -> graduate degree -> job in the field I studied doing EXACTLY what I wanted.

honestly? Manual labour for 3-5 days a week is good for me both mental and physical health wise, it's capital that's the problem. So the same job I have now but without my landlord + boss holding guns to my head

This is what I always wanna tell to people who say shit like that. That work can literally be fun if it wasn't surrounded by unrelated shit. I've said before I'd happily be the barista making your fancy coffees or something if doing so didn't come with no money and shit customers.

Ideally: Touring bassist with Gorillaz. Paul Simonon was a huge influence on me, and it would be so cool to wear his shoes for a bit.

Realistically: Luthier. I want to make and repair stringed instruments.

All that being said, my current job is pretty great. I spend about 85% of my workday reading comics in the open and nobody gives me shit. [Shipping & Logistics company] fucking rules.

i'd enjoy some manual labor building/constructing/productive community based job once or twice a week. i like building stuff, from landscaping work to putting a house together. esp if you remove the profit motive and stressful time pressures. i could also still do what i do a few days a week and manage/stock/serve at a food distribution center. 20-30 hrs a week, 4 days of actual, fullfilling work would be nice. in my own time i'd probably get back into writing again because i'm horribly rusty , and dive back into other old hobbies that i've totally neglected as i've gotten older. if i was still in my 20s i'd want to do actual scientific work or go back to school. take away the frantic desire to "make more money" and i'd probably do classes on my free time just to expand my knowledge without a real educational goal.
