I mean, republicans are dumb as shit anyway, so it's not entirely out of the question that they accidentally end up doing something good in order to spite their perceived enemies.

Wait, am I reading this right? Prager U thinks (or at least is temporarily claiming) Obama caused more death than Mao? Why? Is that a politically convenient statement for the right somehow? What is Prager U trying to get at here?

Conservatives have all mostly internalized Qanon at this point. Their main target is Disney because Disneyworld put out some kind of very performative statement about protecting LGBTQ people in the face of Florida's new bill to ban queer people from being teachers. So Florida has been threatening to revoke Disney's semi-autonomy

the only thing this will achieve is getting democrats to double down on their (already apparent) position that private copyright is more important than human life itself

Doens't most of the West have the same copyright laws, since Disney is extremely effective at lobbying both America and other governments.

Yes, copyright law is mostly done through international treaties with virtually no input from working class people. Most places in the world has a copyright period of 70 years after the death of the author.

Noooooo, not our woke kings at Disney! Having a female protagonist in Star Wars was our greatest victory in centuries! We were so close to making Minnie Mouse trans too!

Just to be clear, copyright has ceased to advance to newer works for one reason and one reason only: if copyright expiration went past 1930 or so, Mickey Mouse would become a public domain character just like Snow White or Cinderella or Aladdin or Paul Bunyan or Johnny Appleseed or Gilgamesh.

This is something that Disney will never allow - but for the first time ever, they've got some real opposition. Boy did they make the right angry. See, for the right, Disney wasn't a big evil corporation, it was childhood packaged in easy to digest movies and shorts, and they had nothing but warm fuzzy feelings for it. A pilgrimage to Disneyworld/land was the rite of passage for the entire middle class, once their children were the right age for it. My own parents took me. But with this culture war shit, the right feels betrayed and they're baying for blood. Something they're expert at.

If they can destroy Disney's stranglehold on copyright and advance the date at which works enter the public domain, they will have done some good for once. Yes yes, it is using evil means to accomplish good ends which is antihero or antivillain territory, I forget which. But anyway I want the same thing to happen to Mickey and Minnie as happened to the "Happy Birthday" song, which was wrongly copyrighted for decades and only recently forcibly taken out of the hands of rent-seekers.

It hurts California a lot more. The lawyers who enforce IP, and the writers who take advantage of that IP to make sequels instead of new shit aren't in Florida.
