Japanese IT consultant goes on a huge bender, falls asleep in the street, loses a flash drive containing the personal data of the 465,177 residents of the city of Amagasaki, including their dates of birth, addresses, bank account numbers, and tax details. https://t.co/4AvEzPrBIS— Mike Bird (@Birdyword) June 27, 2022
The only real play is to go on another bender and find it
I left a laptop at a bar with ~1% of the week priors internet traffic metadata. With that data, Saudi princes could have rounded up non-straight people to execute them, it could have been used to find infidelity of partners, squash political dissent, or maybe use the information to do much worse in the future (I'm looking at you, the United States for using census data to round up Japanese people for internment camps).
I managed to retrieve the laptop, gave her a $50 tip, and quit my job about a month after due to moral reasons.
