I had a rescue dog that would only shit on tables. It would climb up on tables and shit on them. If you tried to remove the shit and it saw you, the dog would become aggressive and territorial. The dog would also eat its shit off that table, even though it had enough food.

We removed the outdoor table in our backyard. The dog refused to shit for three days until finally it apparently reached a breaking point.

It jumped onto our kitchen table and attempted to shit. The dog was a golden shepherd. The table was a cheap one from ikea and old. We tried to get the dog off the table and it started trying to bite us. It landed a bite on me.

The table collapsed as the dog was shitting on it. Shit covered the kitchen and the dog was PISSED. That dog was returned to the pound the next day. The dog had apparently been returned by two other people already and this was a known problem.

Someone might have been able to unfuckup that dog, but it wasn’t going to be me. Got a pitbull instead. That dog doesn’t shit on tables or bite people. Love that dog.

germany requires all dogs and dog owners to be licensed and expertly trained.

That licensing is in most cases only to tax the owners. The training is just needed for Listenhunde (listed dogs, as in: a more or less random list of various stigmatized "fighting" breeds that miraculously excludes german sheperds, but will include every large breed popular in racialized / pauperized communities). When i'm out and about, i see a lot of completely overburdened owners being walked by their dogs while meekly whispering "[dog name] no, n-no", but we also have plenty of people who take training their dog seriously. We have this saying here when dogs cause some issue, "the problem is always on the other end of the leash", meaning owners who do not properly understand, train and socialize their animal.

Worst pet was my first pet. CW: sad story

First corgi I ever had was also the first dog I had ever got. I'm a pretty recent dog owner, just became a thing in my life the past 3 years, but first corgi was named Daisy and was born with deformed kidneys. She was sassy as hell and had a huge personality on her good days, had to give her an IV drip daily which got rough. She was an amazing animal, still have her ashes in a little shrine we keep with her favorite things/mementos. I only list her as the worst for 1) lack of other options, and 2) the emotional blow losing her dealt.

I was there with her up until the very end, she was a good dog. Thanks for your kind words! I think there was some lesson in the for me beyond "turns out i love dogs and losing them sucks actually" but it isn't coming to me right now. At any rate, now we've got Princess Major General (in the People's Liberation Army) Taco 'Bailey' Stubbs and she is similarly sized challenged, but perfectly healthy and turning 5 in September. So, we are where we're supposed to be.

it's so hard to let them go, even when they're sick. i lost my first kitty to cancer a few years back and i still cry whenever i think of him.

the lesson is that they're worth loving even though you know they'll break your heart one day.

may PMG (:deng-salute:) and taco live a hundred years under your loving gaze!

They are the same (all one name, because every animal needs a silly name), but thank you! She sends her snuggles

Rat terrier, came from a shelter my mom worked at, and the only person this dog liked was my mom. He bit every other member of my family multiple times, and he also bit my parents’ friends’ 3 year old. Eventually we had to return him to the shelter.

My dog does this with paper products as well, she will take tissues out of the box one by one and tear them up. Mostly she sticks to food and anything that smells even remotely like food. Still trying to train my GF not to leave food in her work bag, or at least leave the bag somewhere that the animals can't reach. Our two cats will also remove food items from unsecured areas. If it's not in a cabinet, it's not safe.

When I was really small, like barely sentient, my brother and I briefly had hamsters. The only thing I really remember about them at this point is that they fought to the death, his hamster "won" in the same way you "win" a knife fight.

I had a pet mantid when I was younger.

It got eaten by 3 crickets that were supposed to be its meal. It was my first experience with a pet dying and I felt incredible guilt like I had done something wrong because this useless shit somehow lost a fight with a cricket that decided it wasn't going to get eaten like the hundreds of crickets that had come before it.

My parents got a Russian dwarf hamster that we had to wear thick leather gloves to hold because it would bite the shit out of you.

Runner up is a cat my dad had that would sit on the top of the stair railing and take swipes at you with its claws when you walked by.
