[CW: music with br*tish people in it]

Like I know they're old so this isn't a "new" revelation or anything but still lmao. I'd only ever previously heard tubthumping in like a fucken Kroger or whatever but one time I was on Spotify and looked up communist playlists bc I was bored and there was one that had like 12 fucking Chumbawumba songs and i felt emotions that i did NOT know how to process

Edit: i know absolutely nothing else about the band, like i haven't looked into their backgrounds or whatever so i don't know HOW based they are, but from what I gathered they're like,, at worst, socdem which at the very least is uncommon in terms of western music

:10000-com: percent based. They were a commune that started making music as a prank. you will not be disappointed if you dig deeper.

They prerecorded an LP celebrating the death of Margaret Thatcher to be released when she died, definitely worth a listen. The liner notes are full of dunks as well if you can find them, including "Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of all Margaret Thatcher’s victims.”

They're not real leftists. They were together for 30 years without a schism. That's fed behavior.

My mom wouldn't let me listen to anything with a parental advisory. So I knew about Chumbawunmba before anybody.

Their song ‘Nazi’ is amazing. More people should be singing it.

They told us after the war the nazis vanished without a trace/

But battalions of fascists still dream of a master race/

The history books they tell of their defeat in ‘45/

But why did they all come out of the woodwork on the day the nazi died?

but from what I gathered they’re like, at worst, socdem

It wasn't "The Levellers' Song" that they did a rendition of.

the lion sleeps tonight is about communism. It was written by communists and played at rallies. The lion is the working class and the lion waking is revolution
