:doomer: the worst part of all of this is the battery died in my Pokémon Gold that I transferred all of my first pokémon over from Red and I'll never get them back
Persistent storage used to be really expensive, so the Pokemon games have some RAM connected to a little button cell, which was much cheaper to make but when the battery dies your save goes with it. It's not as big of a deal for Gen 1 because they don't use much power, but gen 2 has the clock feature that guzzled the battery. If you have an original cartridge it is definitely dead, I would use an emulator or change the battery if you want to play it again
might not save the data though if the battery is necessary to keep whatever media in the same state. idk how cartridges work though but it might fix it

well the decade before that they figured out that the best way to sell the public more pokemon games is by coming up with more and more pokemons, meaning they were incentivized to decrease the thought/quality put into each design and make them rounder bc easier to draw/animate, and stick random patterns on them to create an illusion of diversity.
This decade they kinda realized that there's maybe too many pokemon because 15023409853609898504 is kind of a big number so they're dealing with it and cashing in on nostalgiabux at the same time by just reworking the old ones
They have also realized that since the owners of capital are basically all white (+ Japan) that they should branch out and make settings limited to every european or european-settled location, and nothing else
What's the rate of new Pokemon/game generation? Is it still 50 or so?
I don't think It has ever been less than ~65, since I started playing in gen 4 there have been as high as (I think) 150 new ones in gen 5. Although I feel like nostalgia plays a much more important role how people rate the designs as I tend to like gen 4-7s designs more so than others, although I would say I still like the new ones more than gen 1.
I mostly just play fan games now when I play instead of the official games, pokemon Uranium, Insurgent, and Rejuvenation all being ones I've enjoyed (although I have never finished rejuvenation as It is incredibly long (probably over 200 hours If you do all the sidequests) and more importantly in my case, incredibly difficult).

Weird shit. I've been playing Pokemon unite recently and there's all sorts of strange stuff. Duraladon is a big ass plinth looking motherfucker that's a metal dragon. Something called Buzzwole is coming soon and it's basically a mosquito-headed version of :swole-doge:. Idk what the hell hoopa is but it's got portals and shit? Hell, there's a ghost-possessed sword which is pretty cool design too.
All Pokemon past 350 are nonsense words. No I will not debate except Kingdra has the best type match-ups at the time. No I will not consider reasonable and correct counterpoints.
