Lol.

Ford just raised the price on their base lightning from 39k to 50k. And they have sold only a few hundred of the pros this year.

Democrats agreed to provisions that would require eligible vehicles to use batteries that are made in North America

This just goes to show that they are only interested in protecting American jobs, not actually helping the environment. Besides, American workers are already struggling to make ends meet, and now they're being asked to compete against workers in China who are paid pennies per hour.

Minimum wage in China is like 12RMB which is not great but actually liveable considering the low cost of living outside tier 1 and 2 cities and factory workers tend to make decently above that. Although I'm sure there are cottage industries where the effective wage is lower, battery factory workers are not part of them lol.

So what I'm hearing is that if everything goes according to plan and there isn't a major economic death spiral that spooks companies out of building new battery plants we might eventually get EVs that get a tax credit, which is at best carbon neutral and just continues the problems we already have regarding car culture.

Reminder that the only reasons car companies can release a new model every year are planned obsolescence and nearly 100 years of propaganda convincing consumers that cars are a fashion statement

      cars are a fashion statement

Cars are also a philosophical statement, an self-actualizing epiphany, and a sociopolitical status signifier, according to modern commercials. :agony-minion:

You could become a billionaire selling small late 1980s size pickup trucks but electric instead of gas.
