I've been on a bunch of trans servers, and a bunch of leftist servers. All trans servers ALWAYS devolve into a bunch of morons yelling at each other over weird as fuck drama and competitions on who's the most depressed person on there, which ends up being toxic as fuck to everyone. All leftist servers are filled up by either insufferable libs or insufferable tankies who take themselves so fucking seriously they will throw Mao quotes at you and call you "counter-revolutionary" cause you posted a meme.

Fucking burn it down.

I think your mileage really varies depending on how well moderated it is. Trans servers do tend towards becoming a bit of a pity party if people aren't actively promoting a more constructive culture, but I feel like I've had a good experience on some of those.

I'll be fired for truth, but Online has proven spectacularly terrible at producing real community. The best results we've managed in the whole history of the sordid enterprise were the forums of the 00s, which were hostile to intruders (Amber is always right) and held together by megalomaniacal moderation that didn't hesitate to pick sides.

i remember participating in a niche irc video ripping scene in the early 00s and it was funny, strangely harmonious for the dorks we were. i met some of the people irl and they were great, oddly balanced and healthy. and today some private torrent trackers forum are decent. when you're driven by a specific shared goal, it sometimes works.

I've tried going to chapo discords a few times but I always left because

    1. I'm awful about keeping up with Everything All The Time and end up just muting the whole thing

    2. Every thread's a doomer thread (without the upvote system to somewhat balance it out, every individual message has equal weight and I end up getting too doomy)

    3. I wanna post my commissioned self insert OC porn in NSFW channels but then someone posts incest or bestiality or something and no one else seems to have a problem with it and thinks I'm just kinkshaming for being weirded out by it

In a different server mods yelled at me because in a venting channel I said Stalin wasn’t the horrible, awful, mass murdering dictator.

That's why I avoid discord "communities" like the plague and just use it to talk to friends and shitpost with them :) :mao-shining:

Discord is fine for games, d&d, and like keyboard modding or something.
