Rn I'm excited for the Gold Edition of Resident Evil Village coming out on Friday since I still haven't played it after loving 7 when it came out.

And a bit further in the future I'm looking forward to that Dead Space remake in a few months and hoping it'll be successful and resurrect the series for an actual proper conclusion.

dwarf fortress steam release with the UI and graphics. i've played the hell out of it but the UI was a nightmare lol i would forget everything if i didn't play for a week.

i am very, very cautiously looking forward to kerbal space program 2. i do not have my hopes up. i would be happy with just a better running, slightly nicer, and larger scale game with a colonization system if they kept everything else from KSP 1 intact. i just don't trust the game in the hands of a big dev.

if KSP folds hopefully the guy working on Space Engine can spin off his galactic colonization/terraforming game with real physics. be so cool to play a space game with such insane scale but not about warfare. just exploration, colonization, and finding habitable planets.

rimworld in general. i haven't played the new dlc yet. waiting for mod updates. however, one of the most prolific mod teams which might as well be doing full dlc is currently working on in game vehicles and mechs. combined with save our ship you will have the ultimate colony game. always pleased with how rimworld is designed around the modding community instead of in opposition to it. as good as you will get with capitalism.

project zomboid's big npc updates. looks like the game actually has a roadmap now and a larger dev team. it's blown up a bit lately. hopefully they can pull it off but i think it's up in the air.

aww hell yeah I sometimes glance at my DF download and decide to play Rimworld instead - if DF's update makes it half as usable as RW is I don't think I'll ever play anything else.

yeah same. i mean rimworld will still be it's own genre. my moods drift between sci-fi and fantasy. but i'm definitely been craving that sweet sweet DF procedural lore. also i just love digging holes and finding shiny stuff ⛏️ ⛏️

I'm a basic b*tch who is looking forward to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet despite the fact that it's probably not going to be that great.

I didn't like Sword and Shield, but then again, Legends: Arceus was fun so maybe it will be good after all.

exactly my feelings, i don't even think i ended up beating all the gyms in shield because it was clunky as shit and i forgot to grind in the right spots of the wild area, but I got in a covid haze and thought it was releasing on october 18 so I preordered on october 17 lmao

Arcadian Atlas. Looks like OG Final Fantasy Tactics, looks like I'm gonna love it.

Pit Bots. New and updated combat robot game to replace the great but antiquated Robot Arena 2.

Homeworld 3. Homeworld 1 & 2 are both in my top 5 RTSs of all time, I love the slower more thoughtful pacing and can't wait to revisit the series.

I wonder if it will play a little faster than FFT. I loved FFT but it's so slow and clunky when I try to go back and play it. Tried to get into Ogre Tactics as an alternative but it seemed to suffer from the same problem. Too much time spent watching walking animations and watching the A.I. complete NPC turns.

True, but I have to ask: have you tried the phone port, or an emulated version with unlocked frames? A lot of the clunk of the original FFT is actually it lagging, I was pretty surprised when I found out.

I've only played it on a PS1 emulator. I don't think it had unlocked frames.

On second thought, you'll still have to watch every NPC take their turn, so it might not be enough. But the combination of every special attack being 50% faster and being able to hit Fast Forward on enemy turns might make the emulated version more palatable, if you use a good emulator and your computer can run it.

Some of the reviews of the new release of Tactics Ogre mentioned QoL changes, so I'm hoping that they can sand some of the edges off.

Edit: Here's a video detailing some of the changes. Looks great, and apparently there's a demo out now/soon.

I still haven't played Disco Elysium and have somehow managed to avoid spoilers, so I guess it's new to me. That's my little treat for finally finishing Capital vol. 1. Targeting to start around the holidays.

Disco Elysium spoilers are always tucked away 3700 words into a 10000 word post so you're never going to accidentally stumble into them

As much as RGG studios has been disappointing me with recent releases, I got to admit, I am a little hyped for Ishin Kiwami

It's the only RGG game I've played that I actively disliked. Yakuza 0/5/K1 was the peak and everything started going to shit once they hit the Dragon Engine. Yakuza 6's story sucked and the clunky, odd engine didn't help. Kiwami 2 fixed out some of the problems, but LAD? What the fuck. Going from beat em' up brawler to turn based combat isn't... illegal or strictly bad, but turn based RPG combat is strategy, not action, and it tries to balance the two and it only brings out the worst in both. The QTE events are really unclear to land and don't even feel like they matter when they do, and the "strategy" layer of it is a fucking joke. Status effects and stat reductions do so little that they're never worth curing, and even worse, will go away after a few turns. The ONLY thing that matters to win or lose is just to have better stats than your opponent, so it's just back to endlessly grinding boring combat with no strategic depth. It's literally so bad that the game even gives you a button fucking automatically play the game, and I have no idea why that wasn't a massive wakeup call to the dev team that the gameplay isn't any good

And for a completely overhauled core gameplay loop in a brand new setting with all new characters, the game ultimately spends way too much time going back and treading on old ground. Pulling characters out of graves they've sat in for years apropos of nothing and having the plot circle back around to the same Tojo clan bullshit that a total reboot, I thought anyway, was supposed to get away from. Other than that, it's just way too many bazinga brain references to "WOW ISN'T IT SO QUIRKY! WE'RE REFERENCING VIDEO GAMES IN A VIDEO GAME!" that I think are supposed to be "jokes" but go on about 20 times longer than what's funny. For a "total reboot", I've never felt a game feel so fucking stale.

More of a minor, personal critique but I've been really irritated by the game's subtle shift from being gritty with a generous helping of realism to reset the tone to actively trying to be funny, which is super jarring and takes away from a lot of it. Kazuma Kiryu being a living demigod of martial arts and a living legend on earth who keeps falling for basic street scams your mom would see straight through is really funny because it rips you away from this super dramatic, theatrical power fantasy to remind you that Kiryu is also just some guy to 98% of people. Kasuga can get caught up in a literal circus and it just doesn't feel funny because the tone of the game is just so... gamey that it doesn't feel real. Kasuga's absurd video game obsessed POV, combined with the very "THIS IS A HEAVILY DRAGONQUEST INSPIRED VIDEO GAME" tone of the whole game just rips me out of the realism. None of the characters (except for Nanba) actually feel real.

I honestly can't think of anything about LAD that I actually liked

Pentiment from Obsidian and Josh Sawyer seems cool. Also this indie called Voidtrain, survival game where you hang out on a train flying through the ether.

Idk I think I've gotten boomer brained with games now, I haven't been getting excited for new releases as much. Maybe I'm just depressed :')

I love so many Klei games (Oxygen Not Included, Griftlands, Don't Starve) and they announced a four person rogue-like game that looks super fun I'm very excited about its potential

    Game is called Rotwood

Redfall is a coop vampire hunter game that sounds pretty interesting

also just discovered Evil West, another vampire hunter game with a Great Name, but the site text is disappointing:

Rise up to become a Wild West Superhero, eradicate the vampire threat in visceral, explosive style and save the United States!

    :cringe:

not really following anything these days otherwise

Well the "Awakened" epilogue DLC for 3 ended on

      spoiler

The Brother Moons finding Earth and beginning to lay siege to it

So I personally think there's plenty of potential for 4 to pick up from there.

Ideally I guess they'd remake 3 too to make it more in line with the first two (Tho I personally still loved it despite it's flaws) while hitting all the same story beats, tho that would push a hypothetical 4 to god-knows-when in the future.

Simple, Isaac activates the citadel and presses a red, blue, or green button to beat the brother moons

The odds are certainly stacked against them at the end of 3, no doubt about that. But in the right hands, I think a game

          spoiler

set on a besieged Earth in complete chaos

          could be fuckin' awesome.

And I think 4 would've been real enough not to give the series a completely happy ending, even if the good guys won at the end.

          spoiler

I think although the Moons would be defeated (Some way, somehow. Maybe they're a hivemind and you destroy the McGuffin one thing keeping them all alive?), Isaac would probably be dead after sacrificing himself to stop them and Earth would be absolutely devastated, millions if not billions dead, with a long road to recovery in front of it.
