They used a very old trick - a lowercase "L" for the "I": PEPLCO.

Surely something like this costs Twitter and PepsiCo way more than $8, right? This would be a big deal even if the accounts only lasted 30 minutes, I wonder how much longer the site will last

Jokes are one thing. But I think Twitter is a hive of scammers and grifters right now. I'll share something I shared before because it blows my mind...

It took me less than 25 minutes to set up a fake anonymous Apple ID using a VPN and disposable email, attach a masked debit card to it (with the address being Twitter's HQ), and get a verified account for a prominent figure. Just think what a nation-state or bad actor could do...

Imagine somebody creates @RealCharIieSheen - in other words @realchariiesheen and tweets out...

Hey, guys - we got into a bar fight so we're in the slammer in Tijuana. We want to get outta here and have some tacos and more beer. But I don't have any cash. Send me some crypto. :)

In all the Twitter chaos - could the scammer make at least a few hundreds bucks? Or even a few thousand? More? I think so.

Eli Lily and Co, plus a couple other insulin manufacturers, are down like 20 billion at the moment due to them having to damage control after someone pretended to be them, got verified, and said they would be giving insulin away for free

Similar situation happened with Lockheed Martin lmao

So, yeah, seems like an issue

Apparently big advertising agencies are advising their clients not to do Twitter ads at the moment. Companies doesn't want their brands to be associated with this dumpster fire.
