The "one love" armband was already a compromise - a reaction to the FIFA outlawing armbands with the rainbow flag because they're "political" (the two genders: cis and political. The two sexual orientations: straight and political). So they came up with this weird thing that has the green, black and red shades from the pan-african movement and the magenta, azure and neon yellow from the pan pride flag and was officially intended as a statement of solidarity with all marginalized groups, not just (but also) the LGBT community.
BTW, not a single pro at this tournament is out. Not one. Out of 32 teams. I don't know what leaves a worse aftertaste, that our lifes aren't even worth a yellow card, that people performatively criticize Qatar while we are being slaughtered in the USA with most people barely noticing, or that all this happens in a milieu were coming out as queer is still considered a career ender in 2022.

Right. But you had a host of nations that weren't participating at the outset. Only seven of the thirty-two participants were a part of this stunt. Players from countries like Japan, Korea, Brazil, Poland and Saudi Arabia weren't invited or they weren't interested. It was West Europeans Only.

Also, if you're tied in the standings on record, goal differential, and goals scored, the team with fewer yellows and reds moves on to the next round. Happened at the last world cup where two teams were evenly matched after the group stage and one team (can't remember who) got sent home on "fair play points"

I still think they should have done it. It would expose more visibly the evil of FIFA and be bad for their product if star players are not playing in the biggest sporting event on earth. Just wanted to clarify the consequences for any non-sporting hexbears

England and Netherlands bent the knee fearing yellow cards. Not trying to be disrespectful, but Iran and Senegal are not nearly on the same level. England won 6-1. Give the whole fucking team yellow cards, the outcome would be the same. Not only should they sport the armbands, they should be skinning beers at center field after the final whistle.
Imagine how much publicity you'd get if you were the first team to get yellow cards en masse for something like this at the World Cup.

Update: FIFA is now so scared of gay that Belgium is not allowed to wear an away jersey that says "love" on the inside of the neck. (source in German, but with a pic of the jersey in question).
BTW, they had worn both the jersey and the one love armband during a friendly match against Egypt that was held in Kuwait just a few days ago and nobody was bothered by that. Somebody at FIFA seems to be going full :meow-tableflip: rn, maniacally looking for anything that could be secret support for the queers. Looks like a veritable gay panic to me.
