Twitter: Nothing outside my periphery matters, my personal values must always be the exact opposite of my enemies values or else i have failed, the world is my personal playground

TikTok: Literally everything matters all the time, all at once, and it is my personal duty to constantly inform everyone of this like i'm a recognized public speaker

Probably something to do with having a teen user base vs having a geriatric user base

This is absolutely the result of the algorithms

Reddit creates advertising demographics by allowing people to self-organize around topics and brands.

Twitter creates advertising demographics by empowering influencers to create spheres of influence.

TikTok creates advertising demographics by allowing people to construct new identities and reinforcing the clusters that appear, almost like a match making system. The algorithm is like Twitter, but less hierarchical. Influencers and Influencees become one.

I fuckin hate TikTok, every protest anywhere has at least one person maximizing its effect, and telling people that revolution is imminent in whatever the day’s news is. Then they move on to the next one with zero reflection. Imagine sending out a change dot org petition to stop the government of Iran from executing 15,000 people. How are we still doing petitions, especially to other governments? Jesus Christ. Worst I heard was “these petitions have saved lives before” with zero backing, zero evidence. Spreading literal fake news then claiming you saved the day when nothing on that scale occurs. Purely social media driven, protagonist of reality syndrome

My mother listens to tiktok as if its the news. I think its where she gets the whole of her modern news and opinions. Liberal feminist tiktok is very cringe.

Tik tok format is pretty damn cringe imo (I know I know, I'm the original thought haver). Music backing over most of it just sounds awful and it gives me sensory overload

Sitting next to other people watching "Tick Tock"* and having to listen to the same 20 second loop of the same crappy pop song eight hundred times is mindshatteringly horrible. And then there's the creepy text to speech dubbing for posters who are too lazy to narrate their own videos.

Yes, you can call me old and a boomer and everything. I feel that way myself.

        *) Latest fad

It's absolutely the worst thing ever. My SO is addicted and likes to watch on full volume. Sometimes I have to tell her to just put on headphones because it's too much, it's too horrible. Plus the content is just mid at best, but usually it just sucks.

Being too neurodivergent to stomach TikTok will be the only thing that will allow my soul to survive the 2020s. My brain is simply not compatible with the next generation of social media, and im thankful

The first time I went to the site it showed me the worst posts I've ever seen, and I never went again, so fortunately I did not get hooked

I can't see the word "ketamine" without imagining Yoda running over a family in a 2001 Honda Civic.

Lmao so real, my ex did ketamine and flirted with converting to Catholicism. I actually grew up Catholic so i didn't understand the logic at all, it's not exactly a "fun" faith

Wanting to voluntarily join the kiddy rape anti-abortion no gays allowed religion is completely baffling to me. Like i get if you were indoctrinated in it so it's not entirely your fault, but why would you desire to be part of that mess?

The faith isn't fun, but the people can be. My family went from nonreligious to regular churchgoers because my younger siblings made friends who went to Sunday school and wanted to be with them. Especially as suburbia and capitalism drives people further and further apart the prospect of a social group to belong to becomes more and more enticing.

Eh, Catholicism is so built into the community it's hard to separate the two. Also a pro drinking, pro partying religion's the most part.

If I had to be Christian, I'd be Catholic. But that's really only because they have the best architecture.
