Sonic "fans" were actualy caught botting the voting while claiming the other side was doing it, literal right wing projection shit.

Meh you can criticize the gacha if you want. People should definitely stay away if they can't handle it, it is also not ideal either and obviously the community contains some of the worst examples of western weebs.

But god damn fucking sonic is not much better, literally just a corporate product that only exists to take your money. I don't realy think there is any merit to millennials/genx voting using their nostalgia brains to justify supporting the shitty Japanese megacorp either.

Meanwhile Genshin revolutionized the genre, has delivered 2+ years of steady growth while avoiding powercreep and is completely F2P if you want it to be, worst case scenario your money is going to fund well paying tech jobs in Shanghai instead of some piece of shit Japanese megacorp, some piece of shit CEO/executive and their underpaid and overworked Japanese workers in Tokyo.

Did Genshin revolutionize the genre? I would agree that it's on another level from the Sonic franchise (despite my love of it), but really it was Breath of the Wild that revolutionized the genre and Genshin just bolted gacha mechanics onto it.

Breath of the Wild that revolutionized the genre and Genshin just bolted gacha mechanics onto it.

IMO one of the changes is that it isn't a whale baiting game as much as other gachas, if at all realy. The previous industry king was FGO and it was extremely greedy and dependent on whale baiting. The gacha model thrived on getting whales to massively over spend because of clout chasing or ingame rewards like PvP. FGO accounts resell for the price of house or more.

Genshin otoh doesn't have either of those. No social aspect, no clout chasing, no PvP, essentialy no reason to whale at all.

And that made it incredibly popular with normal people, you can use your waifu/husband and not have to worry about meta or PvP or whatever. It does mean normal people are more likely to spend because the barrier is lower. You could argue it is worse that way.

The second way is that it is focus on polished aesthetics, they spend a lot of money and time on animations and design. GI doesn't have as many characters as other similar games in the same time period e.g Arknights got like 300 over the same period even though it is also not as greedy.

And then there was other important things like massive open world, proper 3d graphics. I think Botw comparisons are mostly by people who don't know much about the game, but it is ok if that is your point of reference. It realy got nothing to do with Botw other than "open world" and "3d" though.

Genshin revolutionized the shitty anime game genre by using shaders and proper lighting, having an orchestral soundtrack, and generally spending a AAA budget on it so it has Bethesda-tier world details. It's like how Code Vein revolutionized the shitty anime game genre by having good gameplay despite looking like shit.
