I just finished AC7. I love the dissonance of anime bullshit being played completely straight. Gonna download and play another AC game, but would love to hear your thoughts and recs on similar vibes.

I can’t handle the shitty camera. Metal gear 2 was so fucking prescient, but I’m in a shitty middle ground. I’m too young to handle the janky controls and too old to find a let’s play enjoyable.

Check out this recent mod for MGS2's PC port. You'd still need to power through the first game though

Armored core and ace combat. Regarding the comment ace combat, but I have Armored core 4 ready to go on Xenia as my first in that series

Have you played Project: Wingman? That's an indie Ace Combat clone that's really good.

I own it, but haven’t played it yet. AC7 took an embarrassing amount of time to beat. I bet you know the missions that kicked my ass (I refuse to use the cheat planes, it took a long time but I finally beat it using only the SU platform…and warthog for the ground attack desert mission).

I’ve been shit posting in between attempts at beating the damn submarine mission on hard with a MIG 21

Hell yeah brother. I beat the main story with mig 21 after unlocking it. Imma beat this…probably not tonight tho. The ballmer curve only goes so far.

Since they aren’t all connected which do you recommend next? I hear many people cum over 0 Belkan war. And I do like edgy stuff… but I also heard one of the newer ones had helicopters and I’ve never played a game other than battlefield with helicopters before soooo

I looked it up, assault horizon has attack helicopters . It has bad reviews :bawllin-sad:

And he’ll yeah, those all work on emulators so let’s ducking go. Because ducks fly and fucks don’t.

That game actually had some fun new takes mechanics wise. I liked the flying through rings stuff. Keep in one I was like 12 and as an Xbox kid hadn’t experienced AC.

It felt arcadey in a good way

Good shows. One more than the other. Both played a role in my love for anime bullshit. If only JOJO had an RPG. Imagine how dope a game with custom stands would be.

7th stand user is very good. it's a turn based jrpg that's a free fanmade game heavily based on 8 bit rpgs like final fantasy legend. you play as a 7th member of the party in stardust crusaders, you take a personality test that gives you your stand (there's like 20 and they're all pretty distinct) and you take part in the various fights of stardust crusaders. surprisingly in depth, there's a bunch of original content and you don't take part in every battle, so it doesn't feel like you're just retreading the original.

I like most shonen and seinen. I like any jrpg that isn’t aimed at kiddos. I consider Kojima the most talented game director, the only talented and active game auteur.

Death stranding directors edition was the game I enjoyed most this year.

Does any of that help narrow down?

I like anime. I like edgy. I like strong yet basic appeals to emotion. I like it when there is at least an attempt at social commentary. If it’s hamfisted to the point of being humorous I consider that a bonus.

I would heartily recommend Deadly Premonition, though if the Metal Gear Solid games, which were very good for their time are too unplayable for you you might not enjoy a game that was janky as shit and cobbled together with a shoestring budget even when it came out. Since you mentioned Xenia I would also recommend emulating the original 360 release instead of playing the busted PC port if you do wanna check it out.

Edit: Also check out Binary Domain, a weird scifi shooter about an international team of broad stereotypes special operatives infiltrating a newly isolationist Japan to kill robots from the Yakuza devs

Don’t get me wrong, I love jank. I prefer it. I’m simply VERY particular about camera controls. For example: I love the gothic series. I don’t get why people were mad about andromeda (it let me be a gay dad and I’ll fight anyone who criticizes it). Euro jank is my preferred genre.

I simply hate that specific camera style.

I haven’t played deadly premonition, but upon googling it mandalore liked it so I’ll def checkit out.

I loved binary domain. I even loved it despite playing the pc port before the patches.

Dark Sector, the ancient precursor to Warframe, is a pretty fun single player experience where you get a death frisbee that's lots of fun to fuck around with. Widely available.

Prototype has you play as an edgy bioweapon-infected antihero who eats people to restore his health and absorb their memories. Prototype 2 has a guy he infected on a quest to kill the first guy. Super edgy atmosphere and plot with ridiculously evil government black ops organization as the bad guys.

Breakdown is an OG Xbox game where you vomit up a hamburger in first person and get Dragonball Z powers. Reportedly it's playable on Xemu.
