All to make a movie that is filled with the most stereotypical indigenous representation and extremely basic world building.
And the next film is about the “bad” navis apparently. So, it’s not even gonna be about (the most mild critique) of colonialism anymore.
Do you want Noble Savage stereotypes where the indigenous Na'vi can do no wrong, or do you want a more complicated story where the Na'vi have their own political agency and don't always do the obviously moral thing? My main complaint is that this idea has taken three films to get around to - Avatar 1 should have had comprador Na'vi who needed to be defeated along with the humans.
I guess with actual human settlers there will be the comparador/collaborateur urge, before there just wasn't that many humans and they apparently just stuck to mining. The actual irl indigenous americans helped colonials too, especially at first when they were weak and distant.
