You know those dog collars that are supposed to shock the dog if they bark? Shoutout to my friend who, while drunk, decided to see if they work by holding one up to his neck and yelling. Narrator voice: They work.

My parents bought one of those once when I was a kid because the neighbours kept complaining about the dog barking. They concluded after about a week that they don't work at all. That would be because I secretly removed the electrodes from it on the first day.

what kind of fucking psycho designed collars that shock dogs for barking. Just don't have a dog if you're going to abuse dogs for barking

peak america is being too lazy to do animal abuse by hand

Yeah, I've never had a dog, so I don't know what the appropriate thing is to do if you want to train it to bark less, but I'm pretty sure the answer isn't "shock it until it stops."

depends why it's barking. If a dog is barking to boss you around you should just ignore it and it will stop. If a dog is barking at squirrels then you should make it so the dog isn't able to see squirrels by getting it away from the window

I think what the lady at the end brings up probably has a lot to do with it. If someone gives me a button to shock myself with I'm probably gonna do it a few times out of curiosity

It sounds like a bad study. There are no stakes. They're not in a familiar, safe, and comfortable environment. They don't have any of the aids and doohickeys people use to aid thinking and relaxing. They don't have any particular reason to do one thing instead of another. At some point a lot of people are going to get bored and if there's a button to harmlessly electrocute yourself then why not? You're stuck in there for another eight minutes, might as well amuse yourself while you wait.

"We put humans in these extremely unnatural conditions and asked them to do something unnatural and based on the results we are prepared to make conclusions about the state of humans in nature. Also all the participants were 21 year old white male English speaking Psychology students"

It's because on some deep level, I thought I might have electricity powers that just hadn't activated yet.
